Senior Engineer – Electromechanical

Location: Latrobe, PA (Hybrid)

 

 

Job Description – Requirements

Kennametal has an opening for an experienced candidate in Electromechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field for an assignment in our research facility in the Pittsburgh, PA region.  A minimum of a B.S. degree with preferably 5 years of practical experience in one of the above field of studies will be given consideration for a commensurate title and assignment.  Practical experience with industrial equipment is required, preferably in the powder metallurgy industry.  Knowledge of electromechanical systems, control systems, electrical design, vacuum pump technology, vacuum system design, gas distribution systems, ladder logic programming, and Human Machine Interface programming are desired.  Ability to work hands on with industrial equipment is a must.  Project management experience is a benefit.

 

The successful candidate must demonstrate effective verbal/written communications skills, excellent troubleshooting skills and an ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.  Time management and prioritization skills are critical.  Applicants should possess a desire to join an extended team of research and manufacturing colleagues in a fast-paced environment.


Job Description – Tasks

  • Serve as a technical resource for hardmetal production equipment specifications, technical vendor interactions, commissioning/decommissioning, preventive maintenance programs, process development, and knowledge sharing of standardized procedures across all corporate locations.
  • Support product development, process development, intellectual property, quality, manufacturing and EHS through the identification and design of appropriate equipment and processes for the development of hardmetal components for a wide variety of product platforms.
  • Manage complex and evolving organizational interdependencies and support internal equipment and method transfers.
  • Assist in vendor selection, prepare functional specifications and train personnel in research and manufacturing facilities.
  • Initiate, plan and implement technology, manufacturing and capital projects.
  • Lead, implement and sustain local/global system improvements, including measurement system analyses to improve consistency and correlation of processes.
  • Lead teams to resolution in the systematic use of data-driven analysis, decision making and validation.
  • Author and maintain internal procedures and work instructions.
  • Must be able to lift and position moderate-weight equipment.
  • Travel up to 25%, depending on project activity.
