Position Purpose

The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Grocery Department. This position helps ensure excellent customer service, maintains department standards, drives sales and profitability, manages inventory levels, and assists with supervising and developing team members.

Key Responsibilities Customer Service & Sales
  • Provide outstanding customer service and foster a customer-first culture within the department.
  • Assist customers with product inquiries, special orders, and issue resolution.
  • Support department sales goals through effective merchandising, promotions, and product availability.
  • Ensure merchandise displays are appealing, well-stocked, and aligned with company standards.
Operations & Inventory Management
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, stocking, and inventory control processes.
  • Monitor inventory levels to minimize out-of-stocks and excessive shrink.
  • Ensure proper product rotation using FIFO (First In, First Out) practices.
  • Maintain department conditions, including cleanliness, organization, and safety standards.
  • Verify pricing accuracy and promotional signage throughout the department.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Assist in supervising, training, coaching, and developing department associates.
  • Promote a positive work environment and encourage teamwork.
  • Help manage labor resources to support operational needs and productivity goals.
  • Provide direction to associates during assigned shifts and in the Grocery Manager's absence.
  • Reinforce company policies, procedures, and safety expectations.
Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, sanitation requirements, and company policies.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for employees and customers.
  • Assist with loss prevention initiatives and operational audits.
  • Follow all health, safety, and workplace security procedures.
Merchandising & Execution
  • Execute merchandising plans, display programs, and seasonal initiatives.
  • Monitor product quality, freshness, and presentation standards.
  • Support promotional events and company marketing programs.
  • Assist with implementation of planograms and department resets.
