Medical Laboratory Technologist

Hourly rate: Starting at $32/hour

Working hours: 12 hour shifts Ā 


Purpose/Position Summary:

The technologist is responsible to the Director, Administrator and the Lab Manager. Under the direction of the manager, the technologist performs laboratory procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.


Job Relationships:

1. Reports to Laboratory Manager

2. Inter-relationships with: All staff, peers, medical staff, administration and department supervisors.

3. Interaction with patients, visitors, families, surveyors and regulatory agencies is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Performs venipuncture collections on pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Collects and labels the appropriate samples.

2. Reviews and orders the tests on the physician requisition in the hospital LIS.

3. Temp registers patients as needed.

4. Performs appropriate tests efficiently and accurately, reports correctly through the LIS, and distributes the results to the designated medical personnel.

5. Orders and ships specimens to reference laboratories. Completes, results through LIS, and distributes the reports.

6. Maintains adequate records as directed.

7. Supports and maintains adequate quality control procedures.

8. Ā Performs routine maintenance. Investigates and attempts to resolve technical problems.

9. Performs competency testing as required by laboratory policy. This will include wet, written and survey testing.

10. Rotates within the department and by shift as required.

11. May be required to assist in the development of techniques and technical factors related to new and current procedures.

12. Secures and returns supplies as needed.

13. In the absence of the manager, may be designated as acting manager.

14. Adheres to Compliance, Safety and HIPAA policies of the facility.

15. Has access to the ā€œmost sensitiveā€ identifiable patient information.

Requirements

Education/training: Associates in Applied Science, at minimum

Meet CLIA requirements 2-6Ā 


Experience: Prior clinical experience preferred

Computer Skills: Intermediate computer skills required
