Summary/Objective:

The Area Production Supervisor supervises the productivity and overall operations of the sand and gravel mining and wash plants within the assigned area.

Essential Functions:

  1. Oversee all plant operations and personnel within the assigned area.
  2. Hire, train, develop and motivate employees toward accomplishing company goals and objectives; perform performance appraisals as required; complete coaching and counseling documentation and keep personnel records accurate and current. 
  3. Provide advice and assistance to staff as needed and respond to all their complaints, concerns, and suggestions in a timely manner. Coach staff and implement effective problem solving and other improvement techniques using both internal and external resources as needed. 
  4. Monitor employee training and development and ensure that all training is provided in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  5. APS has the responsibility for approval of all employee times/hours in your area.
  6. Develop, implement, and monitor strategies for assigned area in support of corporate goals and coordinate operations personnel to ensure the best overall use and productivity.
  7. Assist Sales and Dispatch in servicing customers by addressing specific problems, providing advice and assistance to customers as needed, and responding to complaints and concerns in a timely manner.
  8. Coordinate operations service in support of meeting customer demands.
  9. Ensure that all vehicles and equipment in assigned region continually remain in safe and efficient operating conditions, as well as kept in a clean, presentable condition.
  10. APS has the responsibility for the cleanliness of the fleet in your area.
  1. Responsible for routine mechanical inspections and preventative maintenance of production plants.
  2. Support and enforce all company safety programs. Cooperate with the company Director of Health & Safety and continually ensure that all company operations and activities are performed in a consistently safe manner.
  3. Cooperate with the Human Resources Department in the implementation of all company policies and procedures.
  4. Ensure compliance with MSHA and all local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  5. Assist in the alignment of performance measures to company goals and objectives and in the development of strategies to achieve company goals and objectives, including recommendations for process improvements.
  6. Educate oneself continually and remain current on industry and training issues by benchmarking regularly with other companies and communicating regularly with the Training Department and other members of the industry involved with process improvement and training.
  7. Strengthen and maintain a high morale and team concept throughout the company through implementation and utilization of sound leadership and management principles, in addition to promoting and employing total quality principles to achieve a more efficient and quality workplace. 
  8. Other duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Functions:

  1. Assist as needed in accident investigations.
  2. Fill in for colleagues and subordinates as needed.
  3. Volunteer and participate in company events.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Work Environment:

  • Work time will be majority outdoors/field with mixed in indoors/office.
  • Exposure to dust and fumes/offensive smells in the field.
  • Exposure to chemicals such as concrete, chemical admixtures, fuel, truck cleaner, grease and oil.
  • Close proximity to moving mechanical parts.
  • Noise level will be moderate.

Physical Demands:

  • Lift a maximum weight of 50 lbs., repetitively lift 50 lbs., carry approximately 50 lbs., and push/pull approximately 50 lbs., and pinch/grip approximately 25 lbs.
  • Reach overhead and reach away from the body.
  • Sit 2 hours per day, stand 4 hours per day, and walk the other 4 hours per day.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

  • 5 years’ experience in the aggregate industries 
  • Prior managerial or supervisory experience.

Special Skills:

  • Written communication, verbal communication and basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to use a computer and iPad, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to use the company dispatching system.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality.
  • Must have proven effective leadership, training and motivation skills.
  • Must have strong organizational skills with the ability to see the big picture.
  • Must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. 
  • Must be able to gather and analyze information skillfully. 

Certifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License. 
  • Virginia Energy Foreman Certification
  • CPR/First Aid.

Industry Related Experience or Skills:

  • Working knowledge of all county, state and federal regulations pertaining to health, safety and the environment.
  • A thorough understanding of both the operation and maintenance of aggregate plants and equipment.

Education Required: College/Undergrad (however any combination of training, education and experience which provides similar knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered).
