About the Role:
The Distribution Center General Manager is responsible for overseeing all operations within a large-scale distribution facility to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective movement of goods. This role requires strategic leadership to optimize supply chain processes, manage staff, and maintain high standards of customer service and compliance. The General Manager will drive continuous improvement initiatives, implement best practices, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet organizational goals. They will also be accountable for budgeting, forecasting, and reporting on key performance metrics to senior leadership. Ultimately, this position ensures the distribution center operates smoothly, supports business growth, and delivers exceptional value to customers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience in distribution center or warehouse management.
- Proven track record of managing large teams and complex operations in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong knowledge of supply chain processes, inventory management, and distribution logistics.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute operational strategies that improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related discipline.
- Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
- Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement certification.
- Experience managing multi-site distribution operations.
- Familiarity with labor union environments and collective bargaining agreements.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all aspects of distribution center operations including receiving, storage, order fulfillment, shipping, and inventory control.
- Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service quality.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a diverse team of managers, supervisors, and frontline employees to achieve performance targets.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards to maintain a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with supply chain, logistics, and customer service teams to align distribution activities with overall business objectives.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting to optimize resource allocation and operational profitability.
- Analyze performance data and key metrics to identify trends, address issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Oversee maintenance of equipment and facility to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime.
- Lead change management efforts and implement technology solutions to enhance operational capabilities.

The General Manager will utilize leadership and communication skills daily to motivate and guide a diverse workforce toward achieving operational goals. Analytical skills are essential for interpreting performance data and making informed decisions to optimize processes and resource allocation. Proficiency with technology, including warehouse management systems and data analysis tools, supports efficient operations and continuous improvement efforts.
