JOB TITLE:  

Peer Recovery Specialist

JOB PURPOSE:   

The Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) provides peer support services to patients with substance use disorders and mental illness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Utilizing their recovery experience, the PRS will educate, and role model the values of every individual’s recovery experience.

• Educates and role models effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.

• Assist patients in developing goals for their recovery.

• Provide interventions to assist the client with reaching their recovery goals.

• Assist patients in developing recovery plans; by collaborating with the integrated care team at UW Family Practice, utilizing the patient’s strengths, identifying community resources, and incorporating the patient’s support system.

• Helps the patient in arranging medical appointments, psychiatric appointments, therapy sessions, support groups, and other resources to aid the client in their recovery.

• Liaison between family members and members of the integrated team at UW Family Practice.

• Assists peers in navigation of the mental health system, referral to various county agencies, community mental health organizations, accessing benefits, personal medical services, social and recreational opportunities, special events, conferences, workshops, and training.

• Attends training and staff meetings as required and performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Certified Peer Specialist OR employment commitment to become a Certified Peer Specialist (recognized by Recover Wyoming)

High school diploma or equivalent

A personal lived experience with substance use disorder and/or mental health experience

WORK LOCATION: 

On-campus: This position provides vital support to campus customers, and the successful candidate must be available to work and perform essential job functions on campus, understanding our location is at 7,220 feet above sea level.
