Position Summary
The Plant Utilities Operator is an entry-level position responsible for providing hands-on support throughout the Castle Hayne, NC manufacturing plant. This role performs a variety of physical labor, material handling, housekeeping, and general plant-support activities to help maintain a safe, clean, and efficient operating environment.
The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-minded, willing to learn, and comfortable working in an industrial manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities
- Perform general labor and utility activities throughout the manufacturing plant.
- Operate a forklift safely and efficiently to move raw materials, finished products, equipment, and other materials.
- Load, unload, stage, and transport materials as directed.
- Assist production and maintenance personnel with routine plant activities.
- Perform general housekeeping to keep work areas, equipment, storage areas, and plant grounds clean and orderly.
- Collect, move, and dispose of materials and waste in accordance with plant procedures.
- Assist with routine cleaning of equipment, work areas, tanks, vessels, floors, and other plant areas.
- Perform manual material handling, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and positioning materials.
- Assist with basic equipment and facility upkeep as directed.
- Operate or assist with other mobile equipment as trained and authorized.
- Follow all safety procedures, work instructions, PPE requirements, and environmental requirements.
- Maintain awareness of chemical, mechanical, vehicle, and other hazards within the manufacturing environment.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment problems, spills, or other potential hazards to supervision.
- Support plant shutdowns, maintenance activities, and special projects as needed.
- Work cooperatively with operators, maintenance personnel, supervisors, and other plant employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support safe and efficient plant operations.
Safety & Environmental Responsibilities
- Follow all company safety, environmental, and operating procedures.
- Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Participate in required safety training and meetings.
- Follow plant procedures for chemical handling, waste management, spill response, and emergency situations.
- Stop work and notify supervision when an unsafe condition is identified.
- Maintain a safety-first mindset while working around operating equipment, chemicals, vehicles, and heavy machinery.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Forklift operating experience is required.
- Previous industrial, manufacturing, warehouse, construction, or general labor experience preferred.
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety.
- Must be dependable and willing to work as part of a team.
- Must be willing to learn plant processes, equipment, and operating procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating heavy equipment such as loaders, skid steers, excavators, telehandlers, or similar equipment.
- Experience in a chemical, manufacturing, industrial, mining, or heavy manufacturing environment.
- Experience with material handling and industrial housekeeping.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Previous experience working around industrial equipment and machinery.
Physical & Working Environment Requirements
This is a physically demanding industrial position. The employee must be capable of:
- Lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and climbing.
- Climbing stairs, ladders, platforms, and other access structures as required.
- Working around operating machinery, mobile equipment, chemicals, dust, noise, and other industrial conditions.
- Working both indoors and outdoors.
- Working in hot, cold, humid, wet, dusty, and changing environmental conditions.
- Wearing required PPE, including appropriate respiratory, hearing, eye, hand, foot, and protective clothing when required.
- Remaining alert and physically capable of safely performing assigned tasks throughout the workday.
