Please note: Job postings close at 11:59:59 p.m. the night before the listed Posting End Date above.The North Carolina Forest Service is a team of professionals who provide forest protection, emergency response, resource management and environmental education to the residents and landowners of North Carolina through a variety of programs. The NC Forest Service provides services to the 100 counties in North Carolina.
This position will be a full-time helicopter mechanic/crew-chief based at the NCFS facility located in Hickory, NC. Position will be responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance on the NCFS helicopters. Will be assigned to Bell UH-1H helicopter. Duties entail daily inspections, 100-hour inspections, annual and phase inspections, and all unscheduled maintenance. A majority of the work will be accomplished in field conditions. Will also be flying on most all missions as a crew chief, with duties including external load, bucket operations, operations of aerial ignition system, and personnel transport. This position will be required to travel throughout the state as required for helicopter maintenance and manning. May be required to travel 12 days continuously with 14-hour duty days. Position is in a team environment and maintenance assistance on fixed wing aircraft is expected.
Residency requirement - Must reside within one hour of required duty station.

Recruitment Range: $47,703 - $83,479
Applicant must be able to climb upon, under and around a running helicopter.
Ability to work from ladders and maintenance stands for extended periods of time.
Ability to withstand working outside in the elements year-round.
Ability to pick up and move 70 lb packages.
Ability to manipulate, roll, pull, and drag up to a 130 lb BAMBI bucket and load onto helicopter in a field environment.

Minimum Education and Experience

Graduation from an FAA approved aviation maintenance technician school and one year of experience in aircraft inspection, maintenance and repair; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements:
Possession of valid Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant license. A&P with Inspection Authorization is preferred.
May require current certification by the EPA as a type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by CFR part 82, subpart F.
Must have or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license with in 90 days of hire.
