The Job You Will Perform:

The Environmental Engineer position is part of the, Health & Safety Environment Department and reports to the HSE Manager.  The position is responsible for the mill’s environmental compliance assurance programs and for environmental compliance reporting, as assigned by the HSE Manager. The Environmental Engineer performs a variety of engineering work in designing, installing, operating, and maintaining measuring apparatus necessary to determine the level of pollutants involving air, land, and water. Ascertains levels of contaminants and recommends appropriate action to assure conformance with federal, state, and municipal legislation and regulations regarding environmental control. Assists in the overall planning and installation of equipment revision relating to the environment. Serves as liaison between the organization and regulatory agencies concerned with environmental control. The Environmental Engineer will be responsible for managing an Environmental Lab Technician.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Solid and Hazardous Waste management
  • Wastewater Treatment System management
  • Storm water and Spill prevention programs
  • Air Emissions management
  • Environmental Training
  • Collection and analysis of environmental information to quantify and report environmental impacts and performances
  • Interpretation of environmental regulations, policies and company standards
  • Effective communication and implementation of environmental regulations and policies and company standards
  • Coordinating external resources
  • Manage environmental permitting efforts and participate in activities that include development of Environmental Management System procedures for water, air, and solid/hazardous waste. 

Qualifications for the Environmental Engineer:

  • BS degree in engineering or sciences with environmental experience
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and how to apply
  • Must be able to obtain State of Indiana License as applicable (Operation Class C) within 12 months of employment.
  • 3-5 years of related experience in manufacturing and environmental areas
  • Must have demonstrated track record of success in working in a team environment with focus on results, safety, and ability to solve problems.
  • Good  communication skills
  • Good computer skills in standard applications, i.e., Microsoft Word and Excel
