SAFETY AND RISK MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR

Are you passionate about maintaining a safe workplace? Do you have risk management experience? If the answer to these two questions is yes, Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens (AASC) may have the opportunity for you. Experts in aging since 1975, AASC provides over 30 programs and services to help older adults and individuals with disabilities age in place. We are currently looking for the right applicant for a new, exciting role within the organization: Safety and Risk Management Director. The Safety and Risk Management Director is the designated safety representative for the agency and is responsible for developing/implementing the agency’s comprehensive safety, risk management and emergency preparedness programs.

Employees applying for this position will ideally have a Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration or equivalent experience in a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred but not required. They will also have 2-4 years of progressively responsible experience and maintain a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification.

Typical daily tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations and accreditation standards
  • Conduct routine risk assessments and lead safety improvement projects
  • Collaborate with the Property Manager to identify and correct hazards at all agency facilities, including the senior community.
  • Oversee agency and department emergency preparedness and continuity plans.
  • Maintain relationships with local emergency management agencies and coordinate the annual review of emergency preparedness plans.

AASC’s benefits package for this position includes hospitalization insurance availability, 403(b) retirement, 15 paid holidays and both sick and annual time accrual. This position supports all divisions of the agency and the programs provided by each division. Travel across the service area, including the city of Bristol and the counties of Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell, Tazewell, Bland, Wythe, Smyth and Washington, will be required. Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs. and moderate physical activity may be required.

Although considered a director-level position, this job will perform direct-service duties and does not directly supervise staff.
