Position Summary
The Construction Accounting Clerk is responsible for supporting the accounting and administrative functions of a construction company. This position assists with accounts payable and receivable, job costing, vendor management, subcontractor compliance, and general office administration. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Duties
- Process accounts payable invoices and verify coding to proper jobs and cost codes
- Prepare and submit customer invoices and progress billings
- Assist with accounts receivable collections and payment tracking
- Enter daily accounting transactions into accounting software
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
- Assist with monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
- Maintain accurate job cost records and support project cost tracking
- Assist with preparation of financial reports and spreadsheets

Construction Administrative Duties
- Maintain subcontractor and vendor files, including insurance certificates and W-9s
- Assist with permits, lien waivers, contracts, and project documentation
- Support project managers with administrative tasks and reporting
- Answer phones, greet visitors, and handle incoming correspondence
- Organize and maintain electronic and paper filing systems
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree in accounting, business, or related field preferred
- 1–3 years of accounting or office administration experience preferred
- Construction industry experience is highly desirable
- Knowledge of job costing and construction accounting principles preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office/Google especially spreadsheets
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, etc.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
