Lead Cook - Radix Recovery Program
Horizons, A Family Service Alliance | Cedar Rapids, IA
Full-time, hourly | Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM–3:00 PM (occasional evening/weekend events)

About the role
Horizons is looking for a Lead Cook to oversee food production at the Radix Recovery Program location. In this hands-on leadership role, you'll prepare and cook meals while guiding a small kitchen team to keep everything running accurately, safely, and on schedule. What you'll do

  • Prepare and cook meals in line with program menus and dietary guidelines
  • Lead and coordinate the daily work of a small kitchen team
  • Manage food and supply inventory, including ordering and storage
  • Maintain food safety, sanitation, and equipment standards to meet county, state, and federal requirements (including USDA commodity food handling)
  • Oversee daily meal setup, serving, breakdown, and cleanup
  • Partner with the Director of Community Health & Nutrition and Nutrition Services Manager on daily operations and catering events
  • Adapt to shifting priorities to keep meal production on track

What we're looking for

  • Associate's degree in food service management or a related field, and/or 3–5 years of experience in quantity food preparation and service
  • ServSafe or equivalent certification
  • Strong leadership, organization, and team-supervision skills
  • Comfort with a personal computer and Microsoft Office
  • Valid Iowa driver's license, auto insurance, and reliable personal transportation
  • Ability to lift 40–50 lbs and stand/walk for long periods
  • Successful completion of a background check (convictions are reviewed individually and don't automatically disqualify candidates)
