About the Role

To The Rescue is seeking a dependable Maintenance Specialist to help keep our properties safe, functional, and well-maintained. This is a hands-on, varied role that includes general building repairs, preventative maintenance, work orders, and troubleshooting a range of property and facility needs.

You'll work independently and with the maintenance department to accomplish tasks across our properties, respond to maintenance requests, coordinate with contractors when needed, and help keep things running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

Building Maintenance & Repairs

  • Complete general repairs involving walls, ceilings, flooring, doors, windows, siding, roofing, and other building components

  • Troubleshoot and repair appliances, plumbing, water heaters, electrical systems, and HVAC equipment

  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine property inspections

  • Respond to work orders and complete repairs in a timely manner

Property & Equipment Care

  • Maintain safe, clean, and functional properties and grounds

  • Safely operate and maintain tools, equipment, and facility systems

  • Keep tools, equipment, and storage areas organized and secure

  • Identify maintenance needs and communicate issues that require additional attention

Project & Team Support

  • Coordinate with outside contractors when needed

  • Communicate project timelines and delays effectively

  • Assist the construction team and other departments with maintenance and facility-related projects

  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours maintenance needs

What We're Looking For

  • Dependable, hands-on problem solver who takes pride in their work

  • Previous maintenance, handyman, property maintenance, facilities, or similar experience

  • Comfortable tackling a variety of general repair and maintenance tasks

  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and determine when additional expertise is needed

  • Comfortable working independently and managing multiple requests

  • Strong communication skills preferred 

  • Ability to safely use common hand and power tools

  • Valid driver's license and eligibility for company vehicle insurance

  • High school diploma or equivalent required 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This is a hands-on position with regular travel between To The Rescue properties throughout the Cedar Rapids area. The role involves standing, walking, bending, reaching, and occasionally lifting or moving up to 80 pounds.
