Position: Prep Cook - Full-Time
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours per week. Weekends, nights, holidays, and events as needed.
Pay: $20.00 per hour

General Summary:
Essex Meadows is recruiting for hospitality focused Prep Cook to join our culinary team.
Essential Job Duties:
- To arrive at the scheduled time, ready and able to perform up to the set performance standards as determined by management.
- To always maintain a professional level of appearance, personal hygiene, dress, and demeanor in accordance with the Food & Beverage Department’s policies.
- To treat and interact with your fellow employees in a respectful, professional and courteous manner.
- Obtain the necessary skills in order to physically prepare all items used in the preparation of the dishes served to the residents.
- Have complete knowledge of all products brought into the kitchen for use in meals.
- Know how to determine the condition and safety of perishable items, and alert the kitchen manager if any item is deemed not fresh, palatable, presentable or dangerous in any way.
- Have a working knowledge of weights and measurements, equivalents and conversions, relating to the preparation of food.
- Be able to read and understand standard lists of ingredients on products.
- Be able to read, understand and follow the standardized recipes.
- To be aware of, and follow medical dietary instructions, including food allergies, mechanically altered consistencies and other Health Center resident situations.
- To assist in the receiving and stocking of orders as they are checked in, dating all items before they are put away. To make sure to follow the proper rotation of dated product.
- Know and follow the proper and approved storage rules for cooked and raw product storage.
- Be aware of the general requirements of State and Local regulations regarding food handling, and to obtain a ServeSafe© Certification within 6 months of starting this position.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, cleaning as you work and leaving your area broom-clean and surface-sanitized at the end of your shift.
- Advise the kitchen manager of any shortage, spoilage or condition issues of any product. Also advise the kitchen manager of any work-related issue including, personnel, equipment, utensils and environmental.
Qualifications:
- Ability to understand and follow instructions in English and communicate effectively.
- Experience waiting tables in a hotel, restaurant or club with fine dining preferred; will train.
- Ability to interpret and explain menu, refer, or answer questions, coordinate meal service process and understands requests.
- Ability to work in close cooperation with residents, guests, visitors, families, management and peers.
