Certified Veterinary Technician – Surgery

$25–$40/hour | Central Point, OR | Full-Time | 3-Day Work Week

Schedule: Consistent three-day work week with 12-hour shifts, plus generous pay differentials for weekend and overnight hours.

Up to $6,000 in combined sign-on bonus, relocation reimbursement, and retention bonus for Oregon-licensed CVTs!

Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center (SOVSC) is hiring a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) – Surgery to join our specialty surgery team in Central Point, OR. This opportunity is ideal for a CVT who wants to advance their anesthesia skills while working with orthopedic, soft tissue, and emergency surgical cases in a 24/7 specialty and emergency veterinary hospital.

In Your Day-to-Day You Will

  • Prepare patients for orthopedic, soft tissue, and emergency surgical procedures

  • Perform anesthesia induction, maintenance, monitoring, and recovery while prioritizing patient safety

  • Develop and implement appropriate multimodal anesthesia and analgesia plans in collaboration with veterinarians

  • Closely monitor anesthetized patients using multiparameter monitoring equipment and recognize changes that require immediate intervention

  • Assist with mechanical ventilation and manage patients requiring advanced anesthetic support

  • Prepare surgical suites, equipment, instruments, and patients while maintaining strict sterile technique

  • Assist veterinarians during orthopedic and soft tissue procedures and anticipate the needs of the surgical team

  • Support advanced surgical procedures and gain hands-on experience with technologies including arthroscopy and CT

  • Provide thorough post-operative monitoring, pain management, and recovery care

  • Assess patients throughout recovery and communicate changes in condition promptly to the veterinary team

  • Maintain accurate anesthesia, surgical, medication, and patient records

  • Educate and communicate with pet owners regarding surgical preparation, recovery, and post-operative care

  • Collaborate with veterinarians, surgical technicians, and the broader hospital team to provide safe, efficient, high-quality patient care

What We’re Looking For

  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT); recent veterinary technician graduates preparing for the VTNE are encouraged to apply

  • Oregon CVT license preferred/required for eligibility for the bonus program

  • Strong interest in veterinary anesthesia and surgery

  • Passion for anesthesia pharmacology, surgical sterility, and patient advocacy

  • Previous surgical or anesthesia experience preferred

  • Detail-oriented and able to remain calm and focused during complex procedures

  • Comfortable learning and working with advanced surgical and anesthesia equipment

  • Strong clinical judgment and attention to patient safety

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Compassionate, adaptable, and willing to support the hospital as needed

  • Motivated to expand clinical skills and learn advanced surgical and anesthesia techniques
