Position Summary: Quality Engineer
The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring all quality requirements for assigned aerospace programs are effectively monitored and controlled in accordance with customer specifications, engineering drawings, contractual requirements, and company standards. This role works cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Engineering, Inspection, Operations, and Supply Chain to drive quality performance, resolve product and process issues, and support compliance with aerospace industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Manufacturing, Engineering, Inspection, and Supply Chain teams to ensure product quality requirements are achieved and customer delivery commitments are met.
- Lead Material Review Board (MRB) activities and manage product nonconformance processes.
- Review, disposition, and close product-related Nonconformance Reports (NCRs).
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions using methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why, and other structured problem-solving tools.
- Prepare and submit First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) and Delta FAIRs in accordance with customer requirements.
- Conduct internal quality audits and support customer, regulatory, and third-party audits.
- Maintain compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, AS13100, customer-specific requirements, and applicable aerospace regulations.
- Develop, analyze, and report quality metrics utilizing SPC, MSA, Gage R&R, and other statistical tools.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives that improve quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
- Support customer quality communications, audits, and issue resolution activities.
- Develop quality procedures, work instructions, process specifications, and supporting documentation.
- Identify quality risks and lead improvement projects to reduce defects and improve manufacturing performance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in Quality Engineering within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of GD&T (ANSI Y14.5) and blueprint interpretation.
- Experience with MRB activities, corrective actions, and nonconformance management.
- Experience working within AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Knowledge of root cause analysis, CAPA, RCCA, FMEA, SPC, and MSA methodologies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and ERP/MRP systems.
- Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Aerospace manufacturing experience.
- Experience supporting flight safety-critical products.
- Knowledge of AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements.
- Experience with Nadcap standards and special process controls.
- Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma certification.
- Lead Auditor certification.
- Experience with ABAS or similar ERP systems.
- Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
