Responsibilities

  • Spray paints vehicles, special weapons items, guided missile systems, and related equipment using enamel, lacquer, and vinyl materials for protection and appearance.
  • Applies specialty coatings such as crinkle finishes, nonskid, rubber coatings, and fluorescent touch-up paint for black light effects.
  • Sprays multiple colors in irregular patterns to create camouflage finishes on exterior surfaces.
  • Mixes, thins, and adjusts paints with dryers or flattening agents to ensure proper finish and thickness.
  • Fills spray tanks, adjusts spray guns, and maintains proper air pressure during operations.
  • Applies stencils, silk screens, and decals where cosmetic appearance, accuracy, and legibility are critical.
  • Reads and interprets Technical Manuals (TMs), Depot Maintenance Work Requirements (DMWRs), Technical Bulletins (TBs), and prints to determine paint types, colors, and markings.
  • Cleans, maintains, and changes nozzles and restrictors based on painting assignments.
  • Visually inspects surfaces to confirm proper preparation before painting.
  • Utilizes electrostatic spray equipment and heated coating materials such as polyurethane and synthetic enamel.
  • Performs specialized surface preparation and build-up using unique painting methods and techniques.
  • Maintains knowledge of pre-coating materials, pot life, shelf life, and proper application methods.
  • Operates and maintains various spray equipment and tools safely and effectively.
  • Mixes paints and agents for blending, thinning, flattening, and other coating requirements.
  • Designs and applies scaled camouflage patterns to missile system major items using view graphs.
  • Follows all safety requirements in accordance with regulations and manufacturer instructions.
  • Demonstrates skill and precision in applying silk screens and stencils.
  • Provides guidance and direction to lower-grade employees on proper procedures.
  • Obtains a Forklift license upon request.

 


Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience vehicle painting experience required. 
  • High school Diploma/GED - Normal Apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
