Description

The Human Resources Generalist  is a strategic and hands-on role responsible for overseeing all aspects of Human Resources operations, employee relations, and organizational development at TSI Plastics. As a department of one, this position manages the full employee lifecycle—from recruitment and onboarding to performance management, compliance, and offboarding. This role also serves as the Chair of the Safety Committee and leads initiatives to promote a safe, compliant, and health-conscious workplace.


Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures and employee handbook incompliance with federal, state, and local laws (including MN-specific regulations).
  • Oversee employee benefits and corporate insurance programs; collaborate with brokers on plan renewals and negotiations; provide recommendations on plan design, benefit offerings, and vendor changes to align with company goals and market competitiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with annual filings, including Form 5500, ADP/ACP testing for 401(k)Retirement Plan, and ACA regulations.
  • Manage employee relations by advising managers and supervisors on counseling, discipline, performance-related issues, and conflict resolution; conduct investigations as needed.
  • Administer performance management programs, advise on employee development, and partner with leadership regarding compensation management, adjustments, and merit increases while ensuring budget adherence.
  • Oversee employee records, HRIS management and compliance documentation.
  • Lead full-cycle recruitment, including sourcing, posting, evaluating resumes, scheduling interviews, and facilitating job offers and onboarding.
  • Ensure OSHA compliance and oversee the Workers’ Compensation program; manage incident reporting, post-accident investigations, injury and near-miss documentation, and collaborate with the insurance team on claims management.
  • Administer Unemployment Benefits Program; manage claims and attend hearings as required.
  • Manage employee leave requests, ensuring compliance with FMLA, ADA, and state/federal regulations.
  • Support and lead initiatives to improve employee engagement, recognition, and company culture.
  • Maintain knowledge of HR trends, legal updates, and best practices in manufacturing settings.
  • Lead the TSI Plastics Safety Committee; schedule and facilitate monthly safety meetings.
  • Maintain and update the company’s safety program, policies, training documentation, and SDS library.
  • Conduct or coordinate safety training for employees (new hire orientation, forklift, PPE, etc.).
  • Partner with department leads on hazard assessments, risk mitigation, and safety improvements.
  • Maintain records of workplace accidents, safety inspections, and related compliance logs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration or related field; SHRM certification a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Human Resources experience is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment related laws and regulations.
  • Advanced communications skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to build relationships and trust with all levels of the organization.
  • High level of professionalism and have the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Exceptional organizational skills; detail-oriented, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong people skills with the ability to establish rapport quickly with others. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple tasks, priorities, and projects.
