Job Title: Human Resources Generalist

Job Description

The Human Resources Generalist provides comprehensive HR support and serves as the first point of contact for HR-related inquiries from employees and external partners. This role implements and administers human resources programs, including recruiting and staffing, compensation and benefits, training and development, employee relations, and equal employment opportunity compliance. The HR Generalist ensures adherence to applicable labor laws and regulations while effectively managing a variety of administrative tasks in a timely and organized manner.

Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for approximately 200 employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Calculate employee hours from various timekeeping schedules and systems.
  • Utilize ADP Workforce Now and other ADP platforms to support payroll processing and related HR functions.
  • Administer employee benefit programs, including health, dental, life insurance, and 401(k) plans.
  • Manage biweekly 401(k) funding and ensure contributions are processed correctly.
  • Perform monthly benefits bill reconciliation to verify accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Handle workers’ compensation activities, including claim filing, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Assist with data gathering and analysis for special projects, including budget processes and reporting to the corporate parent organization.
  • Coordinate and manage annual benefits open enrollment, including communication and support to employees.
  • Administer the annual performance review process, ensuring timely completion and proper documentation.
  • Conduct new hire orientation and onboarding to integrate employees into the organization and ensure compliance with HR policies.
  • Support employee relations by addressing concerns, providing guidance, and promoting a positive work environment.
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment activities, including sourcing, screening, and coordinating the hiring process.
  • Provide clear guidance to managers and employees on HR processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations in all HR practices and documentation.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 3–4 years of combined Human Resources and payroll experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Human Resources Generalist.
  • Minimum 2 years of full-cycle recruitment experience, including sourcing and finding candidates.
  • Proven payroll processing experience, including bi-weekly payroll for a large employee population.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and formulas.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing industry environment.
  • Hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now or similar ADP platforms.
  • Solid knowledge of labor laws and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple administrative tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM certification preferred.
  • Experience supporting HR functions across multiple business units or locations.
  • Experience in employee relations, performance management, and benefits administration.
  • Ability to analyze HR data for reporting, budgeting, and decision-making.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfort with travel for periodic training and meetings as required.

Work Environment

This role is fully onsite, working Monday through Friday with a typical schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including a 30-minute lunch break. The position operates in a manufacturing environment and requires presence in the office five days per week. The first week of employment includes training in Chicago. During the first year, travel to Chicago is expected approximately every two months for 2 to 3 days at a time, and after the first year, quarterly visits are anticipated. The HR Generalist’s responsibilities are split between supporting two business units, with roughly 60% of time dedicated to HR support for one division and 40% for another. The work involves regular use of HR information systems, payroll platforms such as ADP Workforce Now, and standard office software, within a professional setting that values collaboration, accuracy, and adherence to HR best practices.
