Our Space Systems Sector is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer (Level 2 OR 3) with a background in conformal coating to join our team. to join our team of qualified, diverse employees on our Launch Systems group in Chandler, AZ. As a leading manufacturer of launch vehicles and aerospace systems, we require innovative thinkers who can help develop solutions for our coating area.

This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. Relocation assistance is not available.

Our Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for implementing, supporting, and sustaining the use of Manufacturing Engineering System (MES) work instructions for new production programs. The role will require communication between all stakeholders within the design & production lifecycle to ensure manufacturing processes are accounted for early on. A deep understanding of Integration & Test (I&T) procedures, such as: build sequence, tooling design, work cell layout(s), material handling, troubleshooting/corrective action, safety protocols, and quality assurance is required.

The successful candidate will:

  • Design, test, and validate conformal coatings for electronic assemblies used on various platforms.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate coating technologies into system designs.

  • Develop and implement new processes and procedures to improve efficiency and quality control.

  • Conduct failure analysis of coated parts and troubleshoot issues related to adhesion, corrosion resistance, or other performance criteria.

  • Design manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling.

  • Design arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.

  • Design sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.

  • Adapt machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.

  • May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan. Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.

  • Develop manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques.

  • Provide guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.

  • Ensure processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.

This role can be filled at either a Level 2 or Level 3.

Basic Qualifications for a Level 2:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering +2 years of relevant experience

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance, which generally requires US Citizenship as a prerequisite

  • Experience with Manufacturing Engineering System (MES)

  • Experience with Electronics Manufacturing and Conformal Coating

Basic Qualifications for a Level 3:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering +5 years of relevant experience

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance, which generally requires US Citizenship as a prerequisite

  • Experience with Manufacturing Engineering System (MES)

  • Experience with Electronics Manufacturing and Conformal Coating

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering

  • Active DoD security clearance or higher

  • Familiarity with 3D printing, additive manufacturing, or other emerging technologies

  • Experience with Manufacturing Readiness Assessments & Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRA/MRL)

  • Knowledge of Model-Based Definition (MBD) concepts, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools, Product Manufacturing Information (PMI), and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
