Job Summary:
Under general direction, the Production Planner II is responsible for creating work orders, scheduling production, and coordinating and expediting the flow of work and materials to support the established MRP production schedule. The Production Planner II is usually responsible for planning activities for either a moderate depth of top- and sub-assemblies or a moderate breadth of differing lines of production. The Production Planner II accomplishes this by coordinating with the operations and procurement teams to ensure the movement of materials and resources through departments to meet production schedules.
Production Planner II Essential Functions:
- Create “New Product Introduction (NPI)” work orders, working closely with the NPI Manager to ensure timely planning, scheduling, and delivery.
- Assist Configuration Management (CM) in the set-up of new Part Numbers in Oracle (i.e., MRP parameters, Make/Buy, Planner Codes etc.)
- Participate in the Make/Buy Process.
- Distribute production schedules or work orders to the floor by coordinating with production supervisors in order to level-load work based on available resources and production requirements.
- Expedite operations that delay schedules and alter schedules to meet unforeseen conditions.
- Identify and resolve daily material issues, such as shortages, by facilitating or expediting necessary components to support the production needs.
- Provide production scheduling report data to Buyers and VSMs in order to identify potential risk and assist with mitigation plans.
- Escalate shortages to appropriate parties for resolution.
- Revise production schedules when required due to design changes, labor or material shortages, backlogs, or other production interruptions by collaborating with required stakeholders (e.g., Management, CAMs, Buyers, Operations, Engineering, etc.)
- Communicate with front end (CAs, CAMs, PMs) when product will not be completed on time and provide recovery dates.
- Prepare production reports such as risk reports, on-time delivery reports, aged WIP reports, etc.
- Audit, update, and maintain MRP signal data and other production data in Oracle with VSM and Master Scheduler support.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Create work orders in Oracle ERP for assigned department or product line according to established Kanban and Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) requirements.
- Create “Non-Standard” rework orders when requested by M.E. (Manufacturing Engineer) ensuring proper material allocations, accounting codes and MRP inventory parameters are correct.
- Review and analyze capacity to understand production impacts based on requests such as pull-ins, non-standards, OEM returns, and other production needs not aligned to MRP.
- Recommend Kanban and MRP parameters for assigned value stream/product line to improve production flow.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience: A minimum of 4 years’ experience in scheduling, supply chain or fulfillment; A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a lean manufacturing environment
- Knowledge: Knowledge of manufacturing, production planning and materials control functions; Knowledge of scheduling and capacity planning tools; Strong understanding of Kanban Systems, JIT, POU, FIFO, Level loading and their application to manufacturing processes; Familiarity with raw components and their interchangeability
- Skills/Abilities: Skilled in navigating and using Oracle ERP; Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel; Strong detail-orientation; Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; Effective communication skills, both verbal and written; Effective interpersonal skills; Ability to coordinate materials and production schedules with multiple inputs and outputs
- Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED
- Eligibility Requirement: This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access only US Persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Applicants selected could be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or related field of study
Working Conditions:
- Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment.
- Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE
- Ability to lift objects up to 25 lbs.
- Flexible and willing to work overtime if necessary
