| Description: R&D Technicians set up equipment and fixtures for experiments, run experiments, repair equipment and fixtures when needed, assemble and evaluate prototypes, and assist the engineering teams to create assembly and test instructions for first-of-kind new products. Train assembly or quality technicians to build and test new products, escalating issues and observations to engineering to drive continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities: ·        Set up equipment and fixtures as needed to execute an experimental plan defined by engineering ·        Design fixtures as needed for experiment setups ·        Ensure that everything is set up in a safe manner, and that potential risks are understood and protections are in place for equipment and human safety – escalating any concerns to management ·        Conducting experiments according to plans provided by engineering, potentially summarizing data and reporting ·        Assembling, testing and documenting prototypes of new technology ·        Train assembly and test technicians to build and test new products (first-of-kind), based on instructions developed previously ·         Assist engineering in writing assembly instructions and initial work instructions for new products |
Requirements:
- High school graduate
- 2-5 years of experience using tools and equipment, assembling parts into completed products, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues
- Experience using hand tools to assemble mechanical assemblies
- Experience with basic wiring, crimping, some soldering
- Experience with equipment such as DC power supplies, multimeters
- Basic understanding of mechanical drawings, test plans/instructions, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word
Additional Skills Preferred (but not required):
- Associate’s degree or some college
- Solidworks CAD software familiarity
Familiar with other instrumentation such as flow meters, pressure gauges, thermocouples
