Recreation Inclusion Aide

Summary

Provide one-on-one support to a child with disabilities during the after school program. Assist participants with transitioning between activities, following routines, and understanding program expectations. Encourage independence while providing only the level of assistance needed for success. Support positive social interactions and help build friendships with peers. Assist participants with communication, emotional regulation, and behavior support using positive reinforcement and established behavior strategies. Modify or adapt activities, games, and crafts as needed to promote meaningful participation. 

Essential Duties

· Support and assist individuals with disabilities participating in local park district programs

· Demonstrate dependability, promptness, flexibility, and punctuality

· Maintain effective communication with supervisors, staff, participants, and families

· Directly responsible for the safety and supervision of participants

· Communicate effectively to participants and be able to explain based on each child’s development.

· Participate and monitor participants in various programming.

· Promote and encourage participation in daily activities. Adapting activities to the needs of the individual with special needs. Assist the individual with understanding and following rules and directions.

· Maintain a positive environment.

· Follow Channahon Park District policies, rules, and safety regulations

· Use appropriate and positive discipline when necessary for participants

· Document and communicate any issues that are occurring with participants, families, or staff

· Attend staff meetings as required

Hours

Part time, Monday-Friday afternoons during the school year.

Supervisory responsibilities

Participants in the Channahon Park District programs

Work environment

This job will be performed indoors in a temperature controlled setting. At times, job tasks will include participating outdoors with varying weather conditions. Work environment may be loud at times.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear; tasted and smell; and carry materials. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Education and Experience

· Some high school education

· Experience in recreational programming preferred

· One year experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred

Additional eligibility requirements

· Must be at least 16 years of age

· Ability to obtain CPR/AED/First Aid training within 30 days of hire

· Complete DCFS Mandated Reporter Training
