Position Summary:Â
Henderson Building Solutions is looking for a Safety Specialist to join our team. The Safety Specialist is responsible for leading the execution and continuous improvement of safety programs across assigned projects. This role independently conducts safety audits, enforces compliance, and partners with project teams to proactively identify and mitigate risk. As an experienced safety professional, the Safety Specialist serves as a key field resource, driving accountability, influencing safety behaviors, and ensuring alignment with company, client, and regulatory safety standards.
Key Role Responsibilities:
Safety Program Execution & Compliance
- Leads implementation and enforcement of site-specific safety plans and company safety programs.
- Conducts regular jobsite safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments; ensures timely corrective actions.
- Monitors compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Maintains accurate safety documentation including incident reports, audit findings, and compliance records.
- Evaluates safety performance trends and recommends improvements to reduce risk and incidents.
Field Leadership & Risk Management
- Serves as the primary safety point of contact on assigned projects.
- Partners with project managers, superintendents, and field teams to proactively address safety risks.
- Identifies hazardous conditions and unsafe behaviors; drives immediate corrective actions.
- Participates in pre-construction and planning activities to integrate safety into project execution.
- Supports incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective/preventative actions.
Training & Safety Culture
- Delivers and facilitates safety training, orientations, and toolbox talks.
- Reinforces a strong safety culture by promoting awareness, accountability, and open communication.
- Coaches field personnel on safe work practices and regulatory requirements.
- Provides guidance and mentorship to Safety Coordinators and less experienced team members.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Partners with HR and leadership on return-to-work programs and safety-related processes.
- Collaborates with engineering and design teams to incorporate safety into project planning.
- Identifies opportunities to improve safety processes, tools, and programs.
- Stays current on industry trends, regulations, and best practices.
Role Requirements:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, construction management, or related field required.
Experience
- Minimum 5+ years of safety experience, preferably in construction industry required.
- Experience conducting audits, investigations, and implementing corrective actions required.
- Experience supporting large or complex construction projects preferred.
- Experience mentoring or guiding junior safety staff preferred.
Licenses & Technical Competencies
- OSHA 30-hour certification required.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices required.
- Proven ability to independently manage safety on active jobsites required.
- Strong communication and influencing skills with ability to engage field teams required.
- Ability to analyze risk and recommend practical safety solutions required.
- CHST, CSP, or other safety certification preferred.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a variety of environments, including office settings and active construction jobsites.
- Frequently moves about construction sites to inspect work areas, identify hazards, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Occasionally ascends/descends ladders and traverses uneven terrain on jobsites.
- Positions self to conduct inspections, including bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
- Operates a computer and other office equipment for documentation, reporting, and communication.
- Frequently communicates with employees, contractors, and leadership to exchange information and provide safety guidance.
- Must be able to detect, identify, and assess potential safety hazards in varying environments.
- May move or transport safety equipment and materials as needed on jobsites.
