Citrix Software Virtualization Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a TS/SCI Cleared Citrix Software Virtualization Engineer to support the virtualization and delivery of mission-critical applications within the User Facing and Data Center Services Contract supporting National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) systems.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Citrix application virtualization/sequencing, VDI environments, Windows applications, and VMware technologies, and can independently troubleshoot, test, document, and optimize application delivery in a mission-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, package, sequence, test, and maintain virtualized mission applications for delivery to both VDI sessions and thick clients.
- Support applications with plugins, dependencies, and advanced graphics requirements.
- Collaborate with application testers and mission Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to validate application functionality and resolve compatibility issues.
- Identify and implement required application sequencing changes and optimize packaging processes.
- Identify user application settings—including registry keys, AppData, and configuration files—that must persist across sessions in non-persistent VDI environments.
- Identify opportunities to automate application sequencing and deployment using scripting and engineering tools such as PowerShell.
- Support configuration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of Citrix, VMware, and VDI application delivery infrastructure.
- Support backup, disaster recovery, and continuity of operations (COOP) capabilities.
- Troubleshoot incidents, fulfill software requests, and support application delivery throughout the operational lifecycle.
- Analyze, test, and deploy security patches and software updates in accordance with program and security requirements.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design documents, test plans, test cases, implementation plans, operational guides, and training materials.
- Provide technical guidance and training to other team members.
- Work independently with limited direction, exercising sound technical judgment to achieve assigned objectives.
- Apply current virtualization technologies and capabilities to evolving program requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Top Secret Clearance with SCI
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- 8140.01M IAT Level II certification required.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with VDI technologies, including one or more of:
- VMware Horizon
- Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops
- Microsoft Remote Desktop Services
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with Citrix XenApp or comparable application virtualization technology, such as:
- Microsoft App-V
- VMware App Volumes
- FlexApp
- Other enterprise application packaging/sequencing technologies
- 5+ years of experience in systems administration and/or virtualization, with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, certifications, and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to package, sequence, troubleshoot, test, and deploy Windows applications in enterprise virtualized environments.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing requirements, and deliver technical work within schedule and budget constraints.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to rapidly document technical findings, designs, procedures, and test results.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience administering Windows 10/11 and Windows Server 2012+ environments.
- Experience with PowerShell, scripting, and automation for application packaging, deployment, and administrative tasks.
- Experience supporting non-persistent VDI environments.
- Experience with profile management solutions such as VMware Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM) or Liquidware ProfileUnity.
- Working knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy.
- Experience with application delivery and load-balancing technologies.
- Experience with VMware software-defined data center technologies, including troubleshooting and performance tuning.
- Knowledge of ITIL practices and enterprise service management/ticketing systems such as ServiceNow or Remedy.
- Experience creating architectural designs, technical presentations, implementation plans, and operational documentation.
- Experience testing and implementing hardware and software updates.
- Familiarity with enterprise architectural frameworks such as TOGAF.
- VMware virtualization certifications, such as VCA-DCV, are a plus.
