Come cook with us—and help redefine what a great kitchen life can look like.  PRIMARY FUNCTION: Under the direct supervision of the Executive Chef, with support of the Sous Chef, a cook is to prepare food in a clean, safe sanitary manner, and support plating meals for service. To assist with all stages of preparation and serve meals in the Main and Satellite kitchens as needed. Assist in the preparation and service of employee meals. The person in this role is also expected to: Uphold and put into daily practice the values of Carol Woods. Support the well-being and quality of life of every individual resident. Function as a good steward of resident resources. Contribute to Carol Woods approach to continual quality improvement. Support the concepts of a learning organization.  RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Prepare all menu/food items as assigned using standardized recipes, production sheets, portion controls and following HACCP standards. Complete production, while following designated recipes, within scheduled times to allow for proper meal service. Be proficient in basic cooking techniques and applications, including: Court Bouillon, Sauté, Blanche, Braise, Roast, Poach, Grill, Fry, Bake, Stocks and Sauces. Taste food to determine the quality and palatability of items throughout production. Follow FIFO (first-in-first-out) procedures when handling food stock items. Keep all kitchen areas clean and organized. Monitor food temperatures throughout prep and service of food. Assist Chef with the refining of menu items and kitchen procedures. Assists in the serving of meals in both the Main Kitchen and Satellite Kitchens. Maintains high standards of sanitation and completes daily and special cleaning tasks as outlined on the sanitation checklists and in accordance with Health Department requirements. Attend and participate in daily production meetings, departmental meetings, and service trainings sessions. All other duties as assigned. QualificationsREQUIREMENTS: Education: High school diploma Experience: 3 years direct involvement with production in food service required. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Stand/Walk for extended lengths of time Operate kitchen equipment, such as: oven, mixer, slicer, range, fryer, grill. Competencies: Adaptability Organization Technical/Functional Expertise Communication/Literacy (ability to read/edit recipes) Working Conditions and Schedules: Kitchen Environment Flexible Schedule; working days and/or evening hours, also weekends and holidays.
