Join a team that’s Changing What’s Possible – The Medical University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) nationally recognized Department of Pathology and Laboratory medicine seeks a Genitourinary Pathologist. MUSC is a quaternary care hospital with roughly a 1000 beds with a busy genitourinary service, active transplantation, molecular diagnostics and cytogenetics services. . Home to the regions only Level I trauma center, the state’s most comprehensive neonatal intensive care unit, the Transplant Center, and the state’s only NCI-designated Cancer Center, MUSC serves as the principal referral center for physicians and patients of the region. Our Department has approximately $5 million dollars in extramural funding annually and is consistently ranked in the upper half of pathology departments in the United States for National Institutes of Health funding.

Job Description

We are seeking

  • Academically oriented candidate

  • MD, DO, or equivalent degree with pathology specialty training and certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology

  • Subspecialty training and/or experience in genitourinary pathology

  • Eligibility for medical licensure in South Carolina

  • Additional subspecialty expertise in Renal medical pathology or another area in surgical pathology is desired

Our opportunity

  • Participates in very busy, genitourinary pathology service with the Prostate and Genitourinary Cancer Care Team at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center

  • Works with both biopsy and resection specimens in addition to general surgical pathology

  • Covers general frozen section services

  • Shares general surgical pathology call

  • Fosters collaborative relationships with clinicians and researchers.

  • Instructs medical students, participates in the training of pathology residents and fellows, and actively participates in the academic mission of the NCI-designed Hollings Cancer Center programs.

  • The relative percent effort for research, teaching, administrative duties, and patient care responsibilities will be tailored to the successful applicant's experience and career goals.

MUSC Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

  • Collaborative team composed of 10 faculty – with 2 in the Genitourinary Pathology Section

  • High quality training programs with 25 residents and 10-12 fellows who have had a 100% board passage rate for the past 7 years

  • CAPS, AABB, ASHI, and FACT certifications and accreditations

  • We examine 3,000 accessions in genitourinary surgical pathology per year.

  • The Department also offers a non-ACGME-accredited general surgical pathology fellowship training program.
