We are looking for a dependable and hardworking Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our students, faculty and staff, families, and visitors. The Custodian is an important member of our school community and plays a key role in ensuring our classrooms, common areas, restrooms, and campus facilities are clean, well-maintained, and ready for daily use.
Position Details:
Title: Custodian
Classification: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Reports to: Head of School
Schedule: Full-Time; 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm
This role operates on an academic year schedule, with opportunities for additional hours during summer and holiday breaks based on organizational needs.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to perform basic math calculations
- Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures, and occupational hazards safety rules
- Background in handling, mixing, and using cleaning chemicals
- Ability to walk, move, and perform repetitive motions for long periods
- Ability to lift heavy objects, and climb ladders
- Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Facilities, the Custodian will:
- Keep the building and grounds clean and in an orderly condition
- Perform routine maintenance across building and grounds
- Perform heavy cleaning duties
- Sweep, mop, scrub, or vacuum floors
- Gather and empty trash
- Scrub, sanitize, and supply restrooms
- Dust furniture, walls, and equipment
- Clean and polish windows, mirrors, and partitions with cleaning agents
- Mix cleaning solutions and chemicals in preparation for cleaning, according to instructions
- Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
- Notify the Director of Facilities regarding repairs or additions to building operating systems
