SHIFT: THURSDAY - SUNDAY 8PM-6:30AM

What this job involves:

As an Operating/Building Engineer with a primary focus on HVAC and mechanical systems, you'll play a critical role in keeping our industrial manufacturing facility's environmental control and building systems running at peak performance during overnight hours. This position centers on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing HVAC equipment and facility systems that support production operations, including large-capacity chillers, boilers, process cooling systems, air handlers, exhaust ventilation, compressed air systems, and related Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire, and Life Safety systems. You'll manage complex HVAC and industrial utility systems that directly impact production continuity, diagnose and resolve system issues as they arise, and ensure optimal environmental conditions while manufacturing operations continue seamlessly. At JLL, we are collectively shaping a brighter way for our clients, ourselves, and our fellow employees, and your HVAC and industrial systems expertise will be essential to delivering the reliable, efficient facility operations our manufacturing clients depend on.

SHIFT: THURSDAY - SUNDAY 8PM-6:30AM

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Operate, maintain, and repair industrial HVAC systems and equipment including large-tonnage chillers, boilers, cooling towers, makeup air units, process exhaust systems, and associated controls to maintain production-critical environmental conditions
  • Perform preventative maintenance on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and process ventilation systems, including filter changes, belt replacements, motor maintenance, coil cleaning, cooling tower treatment monitoring, and calibration of sensors and controls
  • Monitor and adjust building automation systems (BAS) and direct digital controls (DDC) to optimize temperature, humidity, air quality, and pressurization in production areas while maintaining energy efficiency
  • Support industrial utility systems including compressed air, process cooling water, and exhaust ventilation that directly impact manufacturing operations
  • Record equipment readings including temperatures, pressures, flow rates, amperage, vibration levels, and system parameters, making necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation and identifying potential issues before they impact production
  • Troubleshoot HVAC and mechanical system malfunctions using diagnostic tools and instruments, determining root causes and implementing effective repairs to minimize production disruption
  • Perform refrigerant recovery, evacuation, and charging procedures on industrial-scale systems in accordance with EPA regulations and best practices
  • Monitor the quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside HVAC and mechanical contractors to ensure standards are met and costs remain competitive
  • Maintain responsibility for HVAC-related purchasing and inventory control, including filters, belts, refrigerants, motors, and critical spare parts for emergency repairs
  • Support facility systems beyond HVAC including industrial lighting, process piping, compressed air systems, and fire/life safety systems as needed to ensure comprehensive facility operations
  • Respond to production-related environmental control issues promptly to maintain manufacturing schedules and product quality requirements
  • Perform periodic checks of HVAC and mechanical tools inventory including gauges, vacuum pumps, recovery machines, multimeters, and vibration analyzers to ensure all equipment is properly maintained and calibrated

Required qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial or industrial HVAC systems
  • Strong ability to analyze the operation of large-capacity chillers, boilers, cooling towers, air handlers, and industrial mechanical systems, determine root cause, and necessary corrective action
  • Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and CMMS platforms (i.e. Corrigo)
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Physical ability to bend, sit, kneel, squat, stand, reach, climb ladders, and work in mechanical rooms, on rooftops, around production equipment, and in industrial environments for extended periods
  • Ability to work exposed to varying environmental conditions including heat, cold, heights, industrial noise, and both daylight and nighttime hours in a manufacturing setting as well as assist other shifts and neighboring sites as needed

Preferred qualifications:

  • EPA 608 Type II Certification or higher for refrigerant handling (Universal certification strongly preferred)
  • Trade certifications or technical school training in HVAC/R, Industrial Maintenance, or Mechanical Systems, with additional credentials in Electrical or Plumbing disciplines
  • Experience with industrial utility systems including compressed air, process cooling, and chilled water distribution
  • Experience working in manufacturing facilities, production environments, or operations requiring precise environmental control and 24/7 uptime
  • Knowledge of energy management principles, HVAC optimization strategies, and lean maintenance practices in industrial settings
  • Familiarity with OSHA requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and industrial safety protocols
