Job Summary
The Marketing Communications Coordinator supports the development and execution of integrated communications that strengthen audience engagement, support organizational priorities and advance the Aquarium’s mission. This role serves as a communications partner to key functional areas, including Membership and Advancement, while leading day-to-day management of the Aquarium’s email communications platform.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, collaborative and detail-oriented, with strong writing, project management and analytical skills. Success in this role requires the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, coordinate and produce cross-functional communications and use performance insights to refine strategy and improve engagement.

Essential Functions
Project Management & Communications
- Manage communication workflows, timelines and deliverables for campaigns, initiatives, events and projects within key functional areas, including Membership and AdvancementÂ
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support integrated communications aligned with departmental and organizational goalsÂ
- Serve as a communications liaison for designated departments by attending planning meetings, coordinating deliverables and supporting upcoming effortsÂ
- Serve as primary editor for designated communications projects, ensuring content accuracy, consistency and timely approvals
Email Communications & Audience Engagement
- Lead day-to-day management of the Aquarium’s email communications platform, including copywriting, audience segmentation, scheduling, deployment, maintenance and optimizationÂ
- Develop and execute email communications that support audience engagement, membership, fundraising, events and organizational prioritiesÂ
- Monitor email performance, audience behavior and industry trends to improve engagement and effectivenessÂ
- Support audience-focused messaging strategies for members, donors, event participants and other key audiences
Content Development & Storytelling
- Research, write, produce and distribute content that supports the Aquarium’s mission, programs, exhibits and revenue generation across multiple communication channelsÂ
- Develop storytelling content that strengthens audience engagement and brand awarenessÂ
- Identify emerging trends, audience opportunities and communication strategies to support organizational goalsÂ
- Support photography and video content creation as needed to support key functional areas
Analytics, Reporting & Optimization
- Track and analyze campaign performance in key functional areas across email, website and social media channels using analytics and reporting toolsÂ
- Develop reports with actionable insights and recommendations to improve communication strategies and audience engagementÂ
- Conduct testing and assessments to evaluate audience response and identify opportunities for optimization and growthÂ
Cross-Functional Support & Outreach
- Attend Aquarium outreach activities and events that support strategic initiatives and audience engagementÂ
- Represent the Marketing team at select evening and special eventsÂ
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal stakeholders, community partners and more
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skillsÂ
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlinesÂ
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams and external partners
- Experience with email marketing platforms such as MailChimp or similar systems
- Understanding of marketing and communications best practice across owned channels
- Ability to analyze performance data and apply insights to improve engagement
- Proficiency in Microsoft OfficeÂ
- Familiarity with analytics, content management and project management tools preferredÂ
- Basic photography and videography content skills preferred
- Demonstrates curiosity, adaptability and a willingness to learn, grow and apply feedback in a collaborative environment
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of or interest in conservation, environmental issues or related fields preferred

Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Public Relations or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experienceÂ
- Experience working in a nonprofit a plus, but not required

Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Physical Requirements:
Normal office environment with average walking, standing, bending, stooping, crouching, sitting and computer and phone tasks required. Will also works outdoors as needed. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. needed.
