The Opportunity

We are looking for a skilled Accountant to execute and advise on key accounting functions. Responsibilities include preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, assisting with internal and external financial reporting, providing audit support, and conducting financial analysis. We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Charlotte, NC.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (STAT) and regulatory accounting treatment to complex accounting transactions and demonstrates and shares understanding of key implications.

  • Prepare and communicate financial results and analysis to internal and external partners.

  • Perform in an accounting advisory capacity to operational business leaders on matters pertaining to business initiatives or strategies.

  • Lead special projects and coordinates with key partners to ensure timely completion.

  • Collaborate and maintain strong relationships with business partners.

  • Resolve issues and provide informed, proactive reporting and analysis to enable effective decision making.

  • Develop and maintain processes, procedures and tools impacting financial accounting.

  • Facilitate and review internal controls to ensure an effective and efficient financial system.

  • Provide guidance and share knowledge with team members.

  • Participate and support projects related to accounting systems, legal structures, new product launches and other initiatives, ensuring compliance with accounting and reporting standards.

  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures. ​

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; OR a bachelor’s degree in another field coupled with a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree when coupled with a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.

  • Minimum 4 years' relevant work experience performing accounting functions including preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations and preparing financial results for internal and external purposes.

  • Proficient knowledge and application of GAAP, STAT and regulatory accounting practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to partner and communicate effectively with team members and participants across CFO and the Enterprise.

  • Proficient knowledge of data analysis techniques and statistical methodologies applied in finance or accounting.

  • Proficient knowledge of relevant technical accounting and reporting disciplines.

  • Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Excel with experience maintaining large accounting or financial data. ​

What sets you apart:

  • Background working in PNC insurance, with some knowledge of statutory reporting, preparing financial statements in accordance with Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).

  • Experience with Accounting Systems, testing /system manipulation of large data sets; including Oracle General Ledger and Smart View and Fusion Data Intelligence (FDI).

  • Strong problem solver identifying root cause analysis to tackle issues.

  • Experience with ERP Systems, Accounting Software and subledger to GL reconciliations.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $69,920.00 - $133,620.00.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

 

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
