Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled, analytical, and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join our team. The ideal candidate is a strong problem solver with excellent critical-thinking, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. This individual oversees the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization and helps ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. This position manages the accounting function, supports month-end and year-end close, and works to maintain strong financial controls and compliance. This is an exempt position, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. 

Duties

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
  • Assist with subcontractor payment process, ensuring required paperwork is received and payment is made timely.
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial transactions.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Coordinate annual audits and provide audit support.
  • Assist other accounting staff members and operations personnel as needed.
  • Train and mentor accounting staff, as applicable.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Identify process improvements and efficiency enhancements and work with the accounting team to implement solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.
  • Perform other accounting and financial duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • Construction accounting experience preferred
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
