JOB SUMMARY

The Business Systems Analyst (BSA) partners with business and technology teams to translate business objectives, operating processes, data, rules, and user needs into clear, testable, and traceable solution specifications. The BSA serves as a functional design and validation partner throughout delivery—co-authoring specifications with developers, resolving business ambiguity, maintaining alignment among requirements, scenarios, acceptance criteria, and delivered functionality, and validating that solutions produce intended business outcomes. The role uses company-approved AI and automation tools to accelerate analysis while applying appropriate human judgment, governance, security, and quality controls. The BSA works across waterfall, hybrid, Agile, and AI-assisted delivery approaches.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Analysis and Requirements Management

  • Elicit, analyze, document, validate, and manage business, user, functional, non-functional, data, integration, security, operational, and reporting requirements.
  • Facilitate interviews, workshops, process discovery sessions, decision forums, and collaborative planning with business and technology stakeholders.
  • Translate business objectives into structured epics, features, user stories, functional specifications, business rules, decision logic, scenarios, acceptance criteria, process models, data definitions, integration requirements, and expected outputs.
  • Define normal, exception, boundary, negative, security, data-quality, and operational scenarios before development begins.
  • Document source data, transformations, calculations, expected results, dependencies, assumptions, constraints, and unresolved business decisions.
  • Partner with developers during grooming and high-level design to identify conflicts, gaps, feasibility concerns, reusable components, and impacts to upstream or downstream processes.
  • Maintain requirements and specifications as living delivery artifacts and preserve traceability from business objectives through design, testing, implementation, and outcome measurement.
  • Groom and maintain prioritized backlogs in partnership with business owners, project managers, and delivery teams.

Process Improvement and Solution Discovery

  • Document current-state processes and design future-state workflows that simplify work, improve controls, reduce delays, and enhance the user experience.
  • Identify opportunities for standardization, automation, data improvement, responsible AI use, and elimination of non-value-added activities.
  • Evaluate solution options with business and technology partners and document impacts, dependencies, risks, assumptions, constraints, and tradeoffs.
  • Participate in high-level solution and component-design discussions to represent business processes, rules, data, controls, user experience, and operational needs.
  • Work with architects and developers to assess maintainability, end-to-end process impacts, and alignment with intended business outcomes.
  • Create low-code prototypes, process automations, analytical models, or other approved solution artifacts when appropriate to accelerate validation and delivery.

AI-Assisted Delivery and Functional Design

  • Use approved AI-enabled tools to accelerate discovery, process analysis, requirements development, specification creation, scenario development, test design, and knowledge management.
  • Translate business needs into structured, sufficiently detailed inputs that can be consumed by developers and approved AI-assisted delivery processes.
  • Co-author functional specifications, business rules, scenarios, acceptance criteria, data definitions, and expected outcomes with developers and functional subject-matter experts.
  • Review AI-generated specifications, scenarios, test artifacts, analysis, and documentation for accuracy, completeness, consistency, security, and alignment with business intent.
  • Resolve or escalate business ambiguities, conflicting rules, missing scenarios, and gaps identified through automated authoring and validation processes.
  • Maintain bidirectional traceability among business objectives, requirements, specifications, scenarios, acceptance criteria, tests, implementation decisions, and delivered functionality.
  • Ensure approved specifications and supporting documentation remain synchronized with the implemented solution.
  • Apply company AI governance, data protection, records-management, digital security, risk-management, and human-approval requirements.

Data Definition and Solution Validation

  • Define business data concepts, data ownership, source systems, transformations, calculation rules, reconciliation criteria, retention needs, and expected outputs.
  • Partner with data and technical teams to establish data dictionaries, semantic definitions, interface requirements, and validation rules.
  • Identify representative production-like data, known outputs, exceptions, and edge cases needed for development and testing.
  • Validate delivered calculations, data transformations, interfaces, reports, and system behavior against approved business rules and known results.
  • Investigate discrepancies, distinguish requirements gaps from implementation defects, and document the agreed resolution.
  • Ensure reporting, analytics, auditability, and downstream data needs are considered during functional and solution design.

Delivery, Testing, and Readiness

  • Collaborate with business owners, product teams, architects, developers, quality assurance, security, data, change, and vendor partners throughout delivery.
  • Define business validation strategies and ensure requirements, specifications, scenarios, acceptance criteria, and test coverage remain aligned.
  • Develop and maintain business scenarios, expected results, traceability, user acceptance criteria, and validation evidence.
  • Participate in specification reviews, test-design reviews, integration testing, defect triage, user acceptance testing, and production-readiness decisions.
  • Differentiate defects, requirement gaps, data problems, configuration issues, and requested enhancements, and facilitate timely business decisions.
  • Confirm that material functional gaps and failed scenarios are resolved or formally accepted before business sign-off.
  • Support release planning, implementation readiness, training materials, stakeholder communications, and organizational change activities.
  • Conduct post-implementation validation of adoption, process performance, controls, and intended business outcomes.

Value and Continuous Improvement

  • Use data to define problems, identify root causes, evaluate options, and support business decisions.
  • Define or support baseline measures, key performance indicators, expected benefits, adoption measures, and operational outcomes.
  • Monitor assigned work, communicate progress, decisions, dependencies, and risks, and contribute to delivery and benefits-realization reviews.
  • Contribute to Business Analysis standards, templates, reusable assets, business-rule libraries, scenario repositories, and communities of practice.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in business, information systems, technology, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of business analysis experience and 5 years of professional experience with progressive responsibility.
  • Experience supporting software, data, process-improvement, or technology-enabled business initiatives.
  • Experience developing detailed functional specifications, business scenarios, acceptance criteria, process models, data requirements, and traceability.
  • Ability to analyze business rules, data transformations, interfaces, exception handling, and expected system behavior.
  • Experience working directly with developers, architects, quality assurance, data teams, and business subject-matter experts through iterative delivery cycles.
  • Working knowledge of requirements practices, business process modeling, root-cause analysis, SDLC, testing, organizational change, and adoption.
  • Experience working in waterfall, hybrid, and Agile delivery environments, including Scrum or Kanban.
  • Demonstrated ability to use approved AI-enabled productivity or analysis tools and critically validate AI-generated outputs.
  • Ability to identify ambiguity, ask precise questions, make evidence-based recommendations, and facilitate timely business decisions.
  • Strong facilitation, written communication, analytical thinking, stakeholder management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Working knowledge of data concepts and experience with reporting, business intelligence, SQL, or similar analytical tools.
  • Familiarity with backlog, requirements, collaboration, modeling, reporting, and knowledge-management tools.
  • Commitment to digital security, data protection, AI governance, responsible technology use, and quality.

Preferred

  • Experience with Power BI or Tableau, process-mining, low-code, automation, product delivery, organizational change management, or benefits tracking.
  • Relevant certification such as ECBA, CCBA, CBAP, PMI-PBA, CSPO, or equivalent.
