About the Role

The Financial Asset Manager is responsible for understanding and improving the financial performance of ClearGen’s renewable energy investments. This individual will determine whether assets are performing as expected, identify problems and opportunities, investigate the driving factors, and help ensure that the right actions are taken to improve performance.

This is a role for a curious and persistent problem solver who wants to understand what is happening within the assets, why it is happening, and what can be done about it. Financial analysis is the primary tool for that work. The Financial Asset Manager will maintain the corporate asset model, evaluate actual results against budgets, forecasts, and investment base cases, investigate material variances, and connect the numbers to the underlying performance of the assets.

Success requires fluency in financial statements and complex financial models, analytical depth, and strong interpersonal judgment. This person must have the confidence to ask direct questions, even when they are uncomfortable, while remaining diplomatic and constructive. They must challenge incomplete explanations, secure clear commitments, follow up consistently, and stay with an issue until it is understood and resolved.

As ClearGen’s portfolio grows, this role will help establish the processes, insights, and financial discipline needed to manage a larger and increasingly complex portfolio successfully. The Financial Asset Manager will work across the organization and engage directly with ClearGen’s executives, Board, investment partners, and operating partners. Their work will influence asset performance, operational improvements, future underwriting, financing, capital allocation, and the long term performance of the business.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain ClearGen’s corporate asset model, ensuring accurate and consistent financial data, forecasts, assumptions, and documentation.
• Monitor asset and portfolio performance against budgets, forecasts, and investment base cases, with a focus on cash flow, returns, risk, and investment value.
• Investigate material variances and underperformance, using financial statements, investment models, operating data, and partner reporting to identify root causes and financial implications.
• Identify emerging risks, recurring trends, and opportunities to improve financial performance and protect investment value.
• Work directly with investment partners and asset operators to resolve discrepancies, establish corrective actions, and drive issues through completion.
• Prepare clear, decision useful reporting for senior management and investment stakeholders, highlighting material performance drivers, risks, and recommended actions.
• Partner with Accounting, Finance, Investments, Legal, and operational asset management to connect financial performance with operating conditions, transaction structures, and contractual requirements.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, long range planning, and the transition of newly acquired or financed assets into Asset Management.
• Compare actual performance with underwriting assumptions to help strengthen future investment decisions and underwriting standards.
• Improve and automate portfolio monitoring, variance detection, reporting, and follow up processes as the portfolio grows.

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Four or more years of progressive experience in financial asset management, project finance, investment management, financial analysis, portfolio analytics, or a related field.
• Strong financial modeling and financial statement analysis skills, including experience evaluating actual results, forecasts, cash flows, investment returns, and performance against budgets or base cases.
• Demonstrated ability to investigate discrepancies, assess supporting information, identify root causes, and develop independent conclusions.
• Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and experience analyzing large financial data sets. Familiarity with AI or other analytical tools is a plus.
• Sound business judgment and the ability to prioritize issues based on financial materiality and economic impact.
• Strong communication and relationship management skills, including experience presenting complex financial findings and working with external stakeholders to resolve performance issues.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities independently, maintain attention to detail, and drive issues through resolution.

• Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in renewable energy, infrastructure, project finance, structured finance, or another asset intensive investment environment.
• Experience monitoring post close investment or operating asset performance and maintaining asset or portfolio models.
• Familiarity with renewable energy revenue models, tax credit transactions, financing arrangements, and investment partnership structures.
• Experience automating financial reporting, variance monitoring, dashboards, or portfolio management processes.
• CFA, CPA, MBA, or another relevant advanced credential.

Location/Schedule

The role is based in Charlotte’s Ballantyne neighborhood and offers a hybrid work arrangement that combines collaboration and flexibility. Employees work in the office on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, with remote work optional on Wednesday and Friday. Our current search is focused on candidates who can meet these in-office requirements.
