Reserve Health is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Health & Wellness Coach to support our partnership with the City of Charlotte’s first responders, including the Charlotte Fire Department (CFD) and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).
This role plays a critical part in advancing the health, resilience, and operational readiness of those who serve our community. The ideal candidate will deliver evidence-based coaching that addresses the unique physical and psychological demands of police and fire personnel.
You will work directly with first responders to improve performance, reduce health risks, and build sustainable lifestyle habits through personalized coaching and engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Individualized Coaching
- Conduct one-on-one coaching sessions focused on nutrition, physical fitness, sleep optimization, and stress management
- Utilize motivational interviewing and behavior change techniques to drive sustainable outcomes
First Responder-Focused Programming
- Develop and implement wellness plans tailored to the tactical demands of law enforcement and fire service
- Address job-specific risks, including shift work fatigue, cardiovascular health, and injury prevention
Performance & Progress Tracking
- Monitor participant progress and document outcomes within the practice management system
- Use data to guide coaching adjustments and demonstrate program impact
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
- Partner with Reserve Health clinicians to align coaching strategies with medical and occupational health goals
- Support pre-employment and annual exam insights with actionable lifestyle recommendations
Program Engagement & Outreach
- Actively engage CFD and CMPD personnel to increase participation in wellness initiatives
- Deliver on-site coaching and education across multiple precincts and department locations
Qualifications & Requirements
Required
- Certified Health & Wellness Coach (CHWC) from a nationally recognized organization (e.g., NBHWC, Wellcoaches, or equivalent)
- Strong skills in motivational interviewing and behavior change coaching
- Ability to build trust and credibility with a diverse, high-performance workforce
Preferred
- CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) or similar performance-based certification
- Experience working with
first responders, military, or tactical athletes - Familiarity with occupational health, injury prevention, and performance optimization
- Ability to travel locally within the Charlotte area
