The Role
This individual contributor role leads transportation category strategy for a $40M North America spend portfolio, with primary responsibility for Truckload and Last Mile and secondary responsibility for LTL. The role is accountable for carrier strategy, cost savings, budget and forecast performance, supplier governance, and executive reporting, with a direct impact on service, compliance, and total freight performance.

 

Responsibilities

  • Leads all commercial activities across assigned transportation modes, with primary focus on Truckload and Last Mile and secondary scope for LTL, including carrier selection, rate and contract negotiations, annual RFQs, supplier relationship management, performance management, and delivery of cost savings initiatives.
  • Owns carrier routing guide strategy and governance to optimize rates, carrier performance, capacity availability, and service execution.
  • Leads the contracting process with carriers and service providers, including drafting, redlining, approvals, and execution.
  • Owns savings targets and freight budget planning across assigned modes, including inflation, deflation, and forecast accuracy, and partners with Finance to translate impacts across each line of business.
  • Builds and presents KPIs, scorecards, dashboards, and executive reporting on freight cost, service, claims, compliance, and carrier performance.
  • Leads quarterly business reviews with carriers and key internal stakeholders.
  • Monitors carrier performance and service-level metrics and drives continuous improvement with carrier partners.
  • Maintains a pipeline of annual cost savings and productivity initiatives that reduce year-over-year freight costs and support broader logistics strategy.
  • Partners with JELD-WEN’s logistics operations team to resolve escalated carrier issues.
  • Owns transportation procedures and communicates applicable changes to carriers and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitors transportation market trends and proactively communicates potential business impacts to JELD-WEN.
  • Leads carrier onboarding and ongoing supplier relationship management.
  • Partners with the Freight Administration team to maintain a high level of carrier invoice accuracy.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Strong project management, communication, stakeholder management, and thought leadership skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify opportunities, develop business cases, and gain alignment for new initiatives.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience in North America transportation procurement and sourcing, with a strong understanding of transportation operations.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with transportation management systems, preferably 3G TMS, or within managed transportation environments.
  • Experience with bid optimization tools, preferably Coupa.
  • Strong financial modeling, data analytics, and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to influence across multiple levels of the organization.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in an office environment with substantial computer-based work.
  • Ability to travel 10–15% as needed.
