Position Summary
The Insurance Operations Specialist supports the operational oversight and governance of delegated underwriting programs written on carrier paper. Reporting to the Insurance Operations Manager, this role provides oversight across program, underwriting, and operational functions to ensure alignment with approved authority, regulatory requirements, contractual obligations, and reinsurance terms. The position works with managing general underwriters and agents (MGUs) to review underwriting and operational execution and ensure adherence to established processes and controls. The role also contributes to program management by helping keep underwriting operations aligned and running effectively, supporting related systems and processes, and monitoring and reporting on overall program performance.
This role partners closely with Underwriting, Compliance, Legal, Finance, Claims, Reinsurance, and IT to support program monitoring, documentation management, regulatory compliance, and operational execution. Responsibilities include maintaining monitoring records, preparing operational reporting, supporting underwriting governance through referral tracking and operational controls, assisting with regulatory inquiries and audits, and ensuring documentation remains organized and audit ready. The overall objective is to support profitable program growth while maintaining strong operational governance and protecting the carrier.
Key Responsibilities
- Support oversight of program underwriting and operational execution to ensure compliance with delegated authority, regulatory requirements, contractual obligations, and internal controls.
- Maintain organized program documentation and audit-ready records, including underwriting guidelines, policy forms, and related materials, while supporting regulatory inquiries, data calls, and audits.
- Coordinate cross-functionally with underwriting, claims, reinsurance, compliance, agencies, and program partners to support program operations.
- Identify operational gaps or inconsistencies and assist with program reporting, dashboards, and review materials to support ongoing program governance.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in insurance or finance; or equivalent related experience
- CPCU, AU, or CIC certification preferred
- 1-3 years of experience in insurance, finance, underwriting or related experience.Â
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of the insurance market and underwriting operations, including proficiency with related tools and systems.
- Ability to analyze data to support operational monitoring and reporting.
- Effective team collaborators with the ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to expend extra efforts to cover peak workloads.
- Strong understanding of delegated authority programs, carrier operations, and regulatory frameworks.
