Position Summary:
This job is responsible for optimizing the flow of epics, features, and the value delivered by a smaller Agile Release Train, such as a Solution Train. Key responsibilities include coordinating and facilitating the Solution Train ceremonies, managing dependencies, providing visibility into the health of epic and feature delivery and the overall program increment, and promoting agile principles and mindsets through coaching. Job expectations include ensuring impediments to epic and feature delivery are resolved quickly to avoid disruptions and participating in budget and resource planning.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Facilitate daily team alignment through stand-ups, ensuring progress, risks, and blockers are clearly surfaced.
- Maintain delivery flow using Scrum or Kanban practices, including monitoring WIP limits and cycle time.
- Partner with the Product Owner to ensure a clear, prioritized, and groomed backlog.
- Remove impediments by coordinating with cross-functional teams, leadership, and support groups.
- Coach teams on Agile practices (Scrum, Kanban, or Scrumban) to improve delivery predictability and efficiency.
- Maintain transparency through clean boards, dashboards, and proactive stakeholder communication.
- Drive continuous improvement through feedback loops, observations, and retrospectives.
Key Release Train Engineer (RTE) Skills
- Servant Leadership & Coaching – Lead, mentor, and coach Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Agile teams while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Program Increment (PI) Planning Facilitation – Plan, facilitate, and coordinate PI Planning events to align teams on objectives, dependencies, and commitments.
- Cross-Team Coordination – Drive collaboration across multiple Agile teams, stakeholders, and business partners to ensure alignment and delivery execution.
- Dependency & Risk Management – Identify, track, mitigate, and escalate cross-team dependencies, risks, and impediments impacting program delivery.
- Stakeholder Communication – Provide clear communication, status reporting, and executive-level updates while managing stakeholder expectations.
- Agile & SAFe Expertise – Deep knowledge of Agile, Scrum, Kanban, Lean principles, and the SAFe framework to support successful ART execution.
- Delivery Execution & Governance – Monitor progress, facilitate ART ceremonies, ensure transparency, and drive predictable delivery of business value.
- Problem Solving & Impediment Removal – Proactively resolve organizational and delivery challenges to maintain team productivity and flow.Â
Responsibilities:
- Guides and coaches leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in the Agile Release Train on Agile practices and develops their understanding of Agile principles
- Executes program increment session for release train and facilitates Agile release train ceremonies
- Provides status updates regarding Agile Release Train plans, delivery, timelines, and impediments to stakeholders and leadership while communicating within the Agile Release Train to support delivery against program commitments
- Manages risk including dependency management, impediment removal, and compliance with Enterprise Change Management and other policy requirements
- Measures Agile Release Train delivery, maturity, and performance and reviews the metrics with the Agile Release Train to identify improvement opportunities
- Collaborates with the product management team and ensures the program has a healthy product and program backlog
- Defines norms and agreements for the Agile Release Train and enforces the agreements
Required Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of Agile/Scrum practices (Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, Retrospectives).
- Proficiency with Jira for backlog management, dashboards, and metrics tracking.
- Understanding of DevOps fundamentals, quality practices, and Definition of Done.
- Ability to leverage flow metrics (cycle time, WIP, throughput, predictability) to drive improvements.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills across cross-functional teams.
- Servant leadership mindset with focus on coaching and impediment removal.
- Strong problem-solving, adaptability, and stakeholder management skills.
- Expertise in risk, dependency, and issue management.
- Experience with executive status reporting (PowerPoint/Excel).
- Leadership and coaching experience across distributed teams.
- Familiarity with Jira / Jira Align and enterprise release processes
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with scaled Agile frameworks (SAFe, LeSS, Nexus).
- Strong influencing skills without formal authority; ability to build partnerships across teams.
- Experience with Jira Align for enterprise planning and multi-team coordination.
- Experience working in regulated industries (e.g., financial services) and within compliance frameworks.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, cloud environments, and modern engineering practices.
- Ability to connect team delivery with business outcomes and product metrics.
- Preferred certifications: PSM II, A-CSM, SASM, ICP-ACC, ICP-ATF, KMP, or equivalent.
