Job Description

General Purpose of Job:  

Evaluates, treats, and cares for rehab patients regarding their exercise, education, and treatments.  Promotes the Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab program to Physicians and the community.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Processes patients through the admission process and assures approval of payers.
  • Evaluates/assesses potential rehab patient’s ages 21 and older.  Implements individualized exercise programs in accordance with the exercise treadmill results and physician recommendations.
  • Monitors the patient’s progress in the program and maintains patient files.
  • Assesses, monitors, and interprets patient EKG tracings, blood pressure, respiratory rate and oximetry as indicated.  Terminates exercise when appropriate.
  • Identifies dysrhythmias accurately and correlates appropriate interventions.
  • Performs emergency cardiac care measures, including defibrillation, initiation, and administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation and/or advanced cardiac life support as credentialing allows.
  • Documents patient assessment/progress and forwards information to patient’s physician.
  • Maintains and updates all records, policies & procedures and protocols related to the rehab program. Assists in process improvement initiatives, evaluates program effectiveness.
  • Provides educational resources to the patient as indicated.  Educates the patient on a home exercise program.
  • Maintains records necessary for billing and submits charges on a daily basis.  Maintains and submits a monthly billing summary for the Cardiologist.
  • Maintains exercise equipment.  Orders and schedules repairs, as needed.
  • Educates patients regarding a home exercise program.
  • Attends staff meetings and in-service programs as required.  Keeps current in Cardiac and Pulmonary issues through continuing education, conferences, and literature.
  • Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, values, and customer service initiatives.  Adheres to the organization’s policies & procedures, and compliance guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

General Requirements • National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) Registered Respiratory Therapist Technician (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Technician (CRT). • Current RRT licensure by the state of MI. • CPR/BCLS certification
Work Experience • Ability to interpret Lead II EKG tracings • Experience in health care work--Preferred.
Education • High school diploma
Specialized Knowledge and Skills • Knowledge of cardiac/pulmonary disease processes and related procedures, respiratory therapy techniques, testing procedures and related protocols • Knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and hospital policies related to cardiac/pulmonary rehab function, HIPAA confidentiality, OIG and JCAHO mandates • Knowledge of payer sources and payer requirements • Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required billing, documentation, and reports • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and health care professionals in the exchange of information • Analytical ability to determine appropriate method of therapy based upon observation of patient diagnostic test results and disease processes • Mental ability to adapt and respond to multiple priorities and demands, deal with the concerns of patients and their families, and respond to emergency situations • Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, assist patients using proper body mechanics, and properly operate equipment/ devices • Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.
