Position Overview:
The Database Administrator supports, maintains and monitors existing enterprise level systems solutions with focus on Oracle RAC solutions and general oracle databases on a variety of virtualized RHEL environments. This role additionally supports in the creation and maintenance of test environments for internal development and QA use.
Essential Functions:
- Design, configure, and maintain virtualized database environments (e.g., VMware, Oracle VM).
- Administer, monitor, and troubleshoot Oracle RAC clusters, Grid Infrastructure, and ASM.
- Implement and manage database/system health monitoring and alerting tools.
- Perform performance tuning of databases, SQL queries, and application workloads.
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize schemas, queries, and release performance.
- Manage backup and recovery processes, including RMAN configuration and DR testing.
- Apply patches, upgrades, and security updates across database environments.
- Ensure database high availability, failover readiness, and capacity planning.
- Troubleshoot production issues related to performance, availability, and resource contention.
- Document database architectures, processes, standards, and deployment procedures.
- Set up test environments and supporting internal development team.
- Effectively communicates with customers if required.
- On call every other weekend
- Works on-call in 1st, 2nd or 3rd level.
- Shift work on an as needed basis for system support and/or commissioning.
- Travels internationally for training, project assignments and commissioning.
Qualification Requirements:Â
- 4-year degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience in similar work required
- 3 years of experience with the administration of Oracle databases required
- 3 years of experience with the design and implementation of Oracle RAC environments required
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification required
- Strong communication, problem solving, and customer service skills strongly preferred
M-F 8a-5p, rotating weekends on-call
