The Senior Financial Analyst (SFA) serves as a key partner to the Finance team, responsible for delivering timely, accurate financial insights and analytics. This role combines traditional FP&A responsibilities with deep expertise in the physician compensation model, supporting both strategic decision-making and operational execution.

The position will perform financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and ad-hoc analysis while acting as the backup subject matter expert for physician compensation, including modeling, physician payroll, earnings calculations, and related accounting activities for approximately 150 physicians.

Location:  Candidates must be able to work a minimum of 2 days per week in the Charlotte Admin Office.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Review monthly financial results and key operational metrics
  • Perform variance and trend analysis; clearly explain drivers of changes
  • Develop and maintain financial models linking operational and financial performance
  • Partner with stakeholders (Operations, Revenue Cycle, Accounting, HR) to:
    • Enhance benchmarking
    • Build dashboards and reporting tools
  • Translate financial data into actionable insights for leadership

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Support the annual budgeting & forecast processes, including revenue, labor expense, physician compensation and FTE projections
  • Participate in annual budget development, aligning financial planning with strategic priorities
  • Identify, quantify, and communicate:
    • Risks
    • Opportunities not reflected in forecasts/budgets
  • Consolidate and present results to leadership

Ad-Hoc Analysis & Strategic Support

  • Support Denovo activity, including:
    • Financial modeling
    • Financial statement review
  • Prepare reporting and presentations:
    • Assist with monthly business reviews
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis and special projects as needed

Physician Compensation 

  • Serve as the backup subject matter expert for physician compensation
  • Calculate and validate monthly physician earnings for payroll processing
  • Develop and maintain monthly and quarterly compensation models
  • Interpret and apply physician employment contracts
  • Maintain:
    • FTE schedules
    • Compensation structures
    • Expense allowances
  • Prepare compensation and fringe-related journal entries
  • Review and reclass compensation-related expenses booked by other teams
  • Provide documentation and support for external audits (quarterly physician comp audits)
  • Respond to physician inquiries regarding compensation

 

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field

Experience

  • 5–8+ years in FP&A, financial analysis, or corporate finance
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Compensation modeling
    • Financial planning & analysis
    • Accounting and journal entries
  • Experience working with large datasets, financial systems, and reporting tools

Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced/expert Excel skills (modeling, large data sets, automation preferred)
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical capabilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to interpret complex contracts and translate into financial outputs
  • Strong communication skills:
    • Ability to simplify complex financial information
    • Comfortable presenting to senior leadership
  • Experience with enterprise systems and data warehouses
  • Highly organized with strong follow-through on deliverables
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Proven ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion
  • Collaborative mindset with cross-functional partnership experience

Role Mix

  • ~70–80% Traditional FP&A functions
  • ~20–30% Physician Compensation
