Position Overview
The Transportation Safety Manager is responsible for analyzing the transportation safety program for Saddle Creek Logistics. This role will assist in the continuous review and development of approved operational procedures for maintaining the highest standard of safety. This position is accountable for creating and maintaining not only a safety culture consistent with Saddle Creek values and standards, but also meeting company-approved goals. This position reports to the Sr. Manager of Transportation Safety.
Responsibilities
Creation of reports to generate Saddle Creek analytics to identify trends and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
Serve as a contributor for the development and improvement of the Saddle Creek Corporate EHS program
Conduct on-site company assessments to assess risk and compliance with internal company safety policies & government regulatory standards
Continuously analyze and develop trends of safety data, partnering with the Sr. Manager of Transportation Safety to develop and implement programs to ensure company safety KPIs are met and maintained
Review and document event recorder data and recommend coaching opportunities
Evaluate drivers' Electronic Log Data and report on potential HOS violations
Participate in investigations of work-related illness/injuries and motor vehicle accidents to determine the “root cause”, and make necessary recommendations for any corrective actions or process improvements
Assist in maintaining the DOT accident register and complete DataQ’s, as needed
Manage the gathering of information for litigation requests
Assist in the coordination of the creation and delivery of safety training for SCTI
Coordinate in planning, schedule and development of Monthly Safety Meetings
Ensure the completion of MVR audits bi-annually
Foster a collaborative approach during process/program implementation and change management
Perform all other duties, as directed in support of department goals and projects
Qualifications
Education/Experience
High School Diploma or GED required
Bachelor’s degree in safety or related field preferred
5+ years of safety management experience, preferably in a multi-site or regional capacity.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to travel up to 60%
Experience conducting safety audits and assessments
Strong understanding of transportation safety within a 3PL environment
Proven ability to build relationships and influence diverse management teams within the entire organization
Must demonstrate a high level of integrity
Must be a self-starter and continuously strive for improvement
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision, but also as part of a team
Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously with a hands-on approach in a fast-paced environment
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Strong knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA regulations is required
Preferred
Technical writing experience for policies and procedures
Experience with DOT Hazmat
