The APP will function independently in the inpatient hospitalĀ inĀ collaboration with a supervising physician and other members of a multidisciplinary teamĀ forĀ cardiac surgical and non-surgical patients in the CVICU.Ā These patients include but are not limited to complex neonatal repairs, VAD,Ā ECMOĀ and transplant patients.Ā

Essential Functions:Ā 

  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate,Ā disease-specificĀ history and physicalĀ examination ofĀ complex acute, critical, and chronicĀ advanced heart failure patients.Ā 

  • Rounds dailyĀ with interdisciplinary teamĀ Ā 

  • Manages careĀ and treatment planĀ as theĀ front-lineĀ providerĀ forĀ patientsĀ 

  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests,Ā including laboratory and radiologicĀ Ā 

  • PrescribesĀ appropriate pharmacologicĀ and non-pharmacologic treatment modalitiesĀ 

  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventionsĀ Ā 

  • Documents all patient encounters, records observations, interventions, and actions in a medicallyĀ appropriate mannerĀ in the patient’s electronic medical recordĀ Ā 

  • Collaborates with members of the multidisciplinary team including, but not limitedĀ to:Ā physicians, nurses, medical assistants, social workers, pharmacists,Ā dieticiansĀ 

  • Performs chest tube removals, pacer wire removalsĀ and pediatric ICU proceduresĀ includingĀ chest tube insertion, central and arterial line access and intubationsĀ 

  • Attends,Ā participates, and contributes to group/practice meetings,Ā quality improvement, and policy and procedure development efforts whenĀ requested.Ā 

  • Min Work standards-Ā 1880 hoursĀ per year- shifts are varied with days, nights and weekends split amongst group excludingĀ nocturnistĀ APPs.Ā

Must be approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of North and South Carolina. Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in North and South Carolina. Must have or be eligible for a DEA license. BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHAĀ requiredĀ withĀ expirationĀ date greater thanĀ 90 daysĀ from date of beginning practice. DemonstratesĀ appropriate criticalĀ thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and concentrate.Ā 2+ years of experience as an APP in a relevant field preferred.Ā 

Atrium Health Levine Children’s Congenital Heart Center, establishedĀ in 2010, is currently ranked #7Ā in the country for Best Children’s Hospital for Cardiology & Heart Surgery by U.S. News and World Report. Our comprehensive services include cardiac imaging, diagnostic and interventional catheterization, invasive electrophysiology, dedicated cardiovascular intensive care staff, and regional referral programs in heart failure/transplantation, adult congenital heart disease, and fetal echocardiography. OurĀ state-of-the-artĀ two lab cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology suite and new outpatient office complex is filled with dedicated staffing and is designed to treat all patients from fetal cardiology to ACHD. Our comprehensive Cardiac Neurodevelopment program provides a multitude of specialty services to our congenital heart patients in the same office suite. Participation in investigatorĀ initiatedĀ and multi-center industry sponsored studies is ongoing within the Heart Center, with the support of an active clinical research departmentĀ
