EH&S Sr Specialist

M&M Industries is a U.S.-based manufacturer of plastic pails and packaging solutions. We operate in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where safety, environmental responsibility, and regulatory compliance are critical to our operations.

The EHS Senior Specialist serves as the site's primary Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) professional and is responsible for the day-to-day administration, implementation, and continuous improvement of the facility's EHS programs. Reporting directly to the EH&S Director, this position partners with plant leadership to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, local, and corporate requirements while fostering a proactive safety culture. The EHS Senior Specialist provides leadership in regulatory compliance, employee safety, incident prevention, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement while serving as the primary EHS resource for the facility.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance & Program Management

• Own the day-to-day administration and execution of the site's Environmental, Health, and Safety programs
• Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve EHS policies, procedures, and initiatives under the direction of the EH&S Director
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, local, and corporate safety and environmental requirements
• Maintain all required regulatory documentation, permits, records, and compliance reporting
• Serve as the primary site contact during OSHA, EPA, insurance, and third-party audits and inspections
• Coordinate corrective actions resulting from inspections and audits and ensure timely completion
• Assist other plants or locations as needed

Safety Leadership & Training

• Lead new hire safety orientation and ensure proper PPE issuance and employee onboarding
• Develop and coordinate annual EHS training programs for all employees
• Administer PPE programs, including vending systems, prescription safety glasses, and safety shoe programs
• Lead safety committee meetings and employee engagement initiatives
• Promote employee involvement through safety observations, Gemba walks, and continuous improvement activities
• Coach supervisors and employees on safe work practices and regulatory compliance

Incident Investigation & Risk Management

• Lead incident, injury, and near-miss investigations utilizing root cause analysis methodologies
• Develop, assign, and monitor corrective and preventive actions through completion
• Analyze incident trends and safety performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement
• Lead Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), risk assessments, and hazard identification activities
• Coordinate emergency response planning and emergency drills

Workers' Compensation & Return-to-Work

• Coordinate workers' compensation case management in partnership with Human Resources
• Support return-to-work and modified duty programs
• Maintain required OSHA injury and illness records and other regulatory reporting

Continuous Improvement & Performance Metrics

• Monitor safety performance indicators and develop recommendations to improve overall site performance
• Prepare and present EHS performance reports, compliance updates, and improvement recommendations to the EH&S Director and plant leadership
• Identify opportunities to improve safety processes, reduce risk, and increase operational efficiency
• Support capital projects and process changes by ensuring EHS requirements are incorporated into project planning

Cross-Functional Partnership

• Partner with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Projects to integrate EHS best practices into daily operations
• Provide technical guidance to supervisors regarding regulatory requirements and safe work practices
• Support operational initiatives while ensuring EHS compliance remains a priority

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Demonstrated ability to independently manage a site EHS program
• Strong knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations and applicable state, local, and corporate requirements
• Knowledge of workers' compensation, industrial hygiene, and incident investigation practices
• Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with plant leadership and employees at all levels
• Strong analytical and data analysis skills with the ability to evaluate safety trends and performance metrics
• Ability to conduct root cause analysis, risk assessments, JSAs, and corrective action follow-up
• Ability to develop and facilitate employee safety training
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple EHS priorities in a manufacturing environment
• Basic mechanical knowledge
• Bilingual preferred

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred
• In lieu of a bachelor's degree, an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant EHS experience will be considered

Experience

• Five (5) to eight (8) or more years of manufacturing EHS experience
• Demonstrated experience independently managing or providing primary EHS support for a manufacturing facility

Licenses & Certifications

• OSHA 30-Hour certification preferred
• OSHA 501 Outreach Trainer certification preferred
• CIH, CHMM, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 Auditor, or related EHS certifications are a plus
