Our Grand Rapids MI location is currently seeking a Cost Estimator specializing in Custom Furniture. This role is responsible for analyzing product specifications, quotations, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for customized products projects, or services. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Computing cost and preparing custom estimates in response to a bid package; selecting vendors or subcontractors to meet the specific bid requirements. 
  • Reviewing data to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists.
  • Assisting in the maintenance and organization of centralized cost estimating database. 
  • Assisting in the updating of pricing tools as needed, for price increases or current economics. 
  • Collaborating with purchasing team to review material costs, aligning costs with various pricing tools and methods. 
  • Interfacing with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the cost and labor estimates. 
  • Participating in discussion on profitability, reviews costing of specials that are found with low profit margin. 
  • Consult with internal associates and teams along with vendors to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues. 
  • Providing improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs. 

Educational and Technical Requirements include:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a technical field is preferred.
  • 3–5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • ERP experience preferred (BAAN and Epicor).
  • Strong written and verbal communication is a must.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized is a must.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and develop complete material lists for estimates.
