Department: The Village of Cherry Valley - Public Works Maintenance Worker


Job Summary: The Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing a variety of tasks to ensure the upkeep and maintenance of parks, streets, buildings, equipment, and the water department facilities within the Village of Cherry Valley. This position requires a proactive approach to maintaining public spaces, infrastructure, and resources to ensure safety, cleanliness, and functionality for the community.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Parks Maintenance:

路 Mow lawns, trim trees and shrubs, and maintain flower beds.

路 Inspect and repair playground equipment and park facilities.

路 Ensure cleanliness by removing trash and debris from parks and streets as needed.

2. Street Maintenance

路 Perform street repairs, including patching potholes and sealing cracks.

路 Maintain street signage and paint markings.

路 Assist with snow removal and de-icing during winter months

3. Building Maintenance

路 Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of village buildings.

路 Perform minor repairs, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks.

路 Ensure cleanliness and safety of public facilities.

4. Equipment Maintenance:

路 Perform routine maintenance on public works vehicles and equipment.

路 Report and assist in the repair of mechanical issues.

路 Maintain inventory of tools and supplies.

5. Water Department Maintenance:

路 Assist in the operation and maintenance of water distribution systems.

路 Perform regular inspections and maintenance of water lines, valves, and hydrants.

路 Ensure compliance with safety and health standards.

Qualifications:

Maintenance Worker 1

路 High school diploma or equivalent.

路 Valid driver's license; Class B, CDL preferred.

路 Experience in maintenance, construction, or a related field.

路 Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems.

路 Ability to operate various tools and equipment safely.

路 Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.

路 Salary Range: $21 - $25/hour.

路 Many training opportunities provided by The Village of Cherry Valley.

路 Abillity to obtain an Illinois Class C Water Operator鈥檚 License.

Maintenance Worker 2

*All Maintenance Worker 1 requirements plus the following:

路 Salary Range: $25 - $28/hour.

路 A minimum of 5 years of relative experience.

路 A valid Class B CDL.

路 Abillity to obtain an Illinois Class C Water Operator鈥檚 License.

路 1 floating Holiday to be used at employee鈥檚 discretion.

Vacation Leave

路 Yr. 1 40 Hours.

路 Yr. 2 through 9 is 80 Hours.

路 Yr. 10 through 14 is 120 Hours

路 Max balance is 200 Hours.

Sick Leave

路 80 hours per year.

路 2 personal days, used from sick balance.

Comp. Time

路 Option to convert overtime hours to paid leave hours.

路 Max balance 40 hours.

Work Environment:

路 This position involves working both indoors and outdoors.

路 Exposure to various weather conditions and potential hazards.

路 Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Reporting To: The Public Works Supervisor and / or the Public Works Director.
