Job DetailsJob Location: Chesapeake, VA 23320Salary Range: $90.00 - $95.00 HourlyAPS is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to join our ports and maritime team. This role will lead project teams through the design and construction process, delivering heavy civil projects such as port utility and roadway infrastructure, stormwater management systems, and other waterfront projects. You will collaborate with local and national teams to expand APS’s maritime practice, foster client relationships with port authorities, terminal operators, shipping lines, and shipyards, and contribute to the execution of complex projects nationwide. Key Responsibilities: Lead project teams throughout design and construction phases, adapting plans to meet budget, design, and client requirements. Deliver heavy civil projects while identifying innovative solutions for design and construction challenges. Manage projects requiring diverse services and collaborate with multi-disciplined teams of engineers, designers, and construction professionals. Communicate clearly with clients and stakeholders, translating complex concepts into actionable project plans. Mentor junior engineers, provide guidance, and ensure accountability and quality across project deliverables. Collaborate with APS marketing, business development, and other teams to identify and pursue strategic opportunities. Participate in regional trade associations and professional organizations as appropriate. Direct and coordinate activities of multiple disciplines on projects, including sub-consultants. Perform quality reviews for engineering documents, specifications, and designs. Other duties as assigned.    QualificationsRequired Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program and 7 years of civil engineering experience (EPC project experience preferred), or Bachelor’s degree in civil or related engineering technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, with 7 years of civil engineering experience (EPC project experience preferred), or Master’s degree in civil engineering with 6 years of civil engineering experience (EPC project experience preferred). Proficiency with AutoCAD/MicroStation, Microsoft Office tools, Microsoft Project, and other relevant engineering software (e.g., Revit, Civil 3D, RISA-3D, PLS, MathCADD). Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and presentation skills. Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures. Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating tasks to team members. Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications. Ability to travel as required. Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
