Director of DC Operations

About Your Role: 

As a Director of DC Operations at a Dollar Tree Distribution Center, you’ll have overall responsibility for the effective operation of the DC, including organizational development, productivity improvements, financial performance, and departmental management. You’ll ensure high standards of safety, quality, and customer service while leading and developing a team of supervisors and associates. Your day-to-day job duties include, but are not limited to, the following: 

Operations Leadership & Strategy: 

  • Direct and take overall responsibility for short- and long-term planning, budgetary and expense control, and implementation of operational policies, programs, and systems 

  • Develop solutions to complex operational problems and exercise judgment in determining objectives and approaches for successful DC operations 

  • Establish productivity and quality goals and ensure that goals are met 

  • Monitor, evaluate, and manage key productivity indicators to control costs 

  • Assist the Regional Director of DC Operations with special projects and identification of best operational practices 

Distribution & Facility Management: 

  • Ensure stores are supplied with ordered merchandise in a safe, timely, and efficient manner 

  • Monitor results of quality, accuracy, safety, and housekeeping evaluations to ensure adherence to company standards 

  • Oversee and monitor facility maintenance to ensure buildings, grounds, and equipment are functional and properly maintained 

Leadership & Talent Development: 

  • Maintain accountability for staff hiring, orientation, training, performance evaluations, pay increases, and associate development 

  • Assess, manage, coach, and develop talent across all levels of the DC 

  • Ensure disciplinary actions or terminations are carried out appropriately when necessary 

  • Share and provide information and anticipate the information needs of all DC associates 

 

Your Required Skills and Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in business administration or logistics preferred 

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of distribution center management and operations experience, or equivalent 

  • Strong knowledge of distribution center practices and procedures 

  • Strong leadership, administrative, organizational, managerial, and communication skills (written and verbal) 

  • Strong business acumen and analytical ability to develop, recommend, and implement solutions 

  • Ability to make independent decisions, solve complex problems, and accept personal and departmental accountability 

  • Proficiency with warehouse management systems (such as AS400) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook) 

  • Familiarity with internet-based applications 

Preferred Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, logistics, or related field 

  • Previous experience managing high-volume, multi-shift DC operations
