Overview

Drill-Tech is seeking a Mobile HDD Equipment Mechanic to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair horizontal directional drilling equipment and support equipment throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Headquartered in Chester, Maryland, Drill-Tech performs HDD and underground utility work across the region.

This position is responsible for keeping equipment operating safely and efficiently by performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, diesel, and electrical issues, and completing repairs in both the field and shop as needed.

The successful candidate will work on a diverse fleet of HDD equipment, heavy construction equipment, on-road trucks and trailers, support equipment, and service vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment in both the field and shop
  • Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing on company equipment
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic, diesel, electrical, mechanical, and electronic systems
  • Perform emergency field repairs to minimize equipment downtime
  • Service and repair Vermeer horizontal directional drilling equipment
  • Maintain maintenance records and communicate repair needs to field leadership
  • Coordinate with field crews regarding equipment availability and repair schedules
  • Travel throughout the Mid-Atlantic to support active projects

Equipment You'll Work On

  • Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) rigs, including mini, midi, and large maxi rigs
  • Diesel engines, hydraulic systems, drill pipe handling systems, and onboard drill controls
  • Drilling fluid systems, including mud mixers, mud pumps, and recycling/reclaiming units
  • Vacuum excavation equipment, including hydrovac and vacuum trucks
  • Heavy construction equipment, including excavators, mini excavators, backhoes, skid steers, loaders, and dozers
  • HDPE pipe fusion equipment and related pipe-handling equipment
  • Heavy trucks, lowboy trailers, equipment trailers, water trucks, fuel and lube trucks, and service trucks
  • Crew pickup trucks and light-duty service vehicles
  • Generators, air compressors, pumps, light towers, and other auxiliary jobsite equipment

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of heavy equipment or diesel mechanic experience
  • Experience troubleshooting hydraulic, diesel, electrical, and mechanical systems
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willingness to travel throughout the Mid-Atlantic region

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience servicing Vermeer HDD equipment
  • Experience maintaining horizontal directional drilling rigs and drilling support equipment
  • Experience repairing mud systems, mud pumps, recyclers, and vacuum excavation equipment
  • Experience working on excavators, skid steers, loaders, backhoes, and other heavy construction equipment
  • Experience maintaining heavy trucks, trailers, and DOT-regulated equipment
  • Class A CDL
  • Welding and fabrication experience
  • Knowledge of DOT inspections and fleet compliance requirements
