Under supervision, underwrite facultative applications up to $1,000,000 with approval authority up to $250,000. Responsible for learning and developing basic underwriting knowledge and skills to meet established quality, productivity, development, and performance goals.

Principle Duties

  • Focuses on the introduction of risk selection principles to underwrite facultative applications using case studies and other structured risk selection processes (i.e. manuals, MD Referrals) ensuring accepted risks are sound and profitable to RGA Re.
  • Processes caseload to ensure completion in a timely, efficient manner, meeting or exceeding time service/productivity goals and offer/decline ratios; and ensuring compliance with internal underwriting and audit guidelines.
  • Builds and maintains client relationships through effective communication of underwriting decisions.
  • Learns and applies the following underwriting basics to progress from a learner role to a competent producer role: Develops basic foundation of insurance principles; Develops basic understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and laboratory results; Develops basic understanding of non-medical underwriting (MVR, Financial, Insurable Interest, Aviation, Occupation, Avocation, etc.); Develops understanding of RGA Re philosophy through manual review, cases and discussions with experienced RGA Re Underwriters and Medical Directors; Familiarization with other risk selection resources (MIB, On The Risk, Status Sheets, etc.); and Successful completion of ALU 101.
  • Collaborates with Medical Directors, Underwriters, other team members and internal departments to obtain expert knowledge and to assist in identifying solutions and resolutions to problems/issues resulting in quality decisions and client satisfaction.
  • Participates in special projects, committees, and meetings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS)
  • OR equivalent related work experience (minimum 8 years) and progression toward ALU or FLMI Or 2-5 years insurance or reinsurance experience with progression towards FLMI or other industry accreditation
  • Basic Word and Excel skills
  • Ability to read and interpret insurance and contract documents
  • Ability to be flexible when needed, take initiative, and demonstrate accountability
  • Intermediate oral and written communication skills demonstrating ability to share and impart knowledge
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new methods, work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions
  • Ability to set goals, multitask and prioritize workload
  • Intermediate investigative, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and participate in department projects
  • Ability to balance detail with departmental goals/objectives
  • SQL/Query skills

Compensation Range:

$57,300.00 - $81,870.00 Annual

Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
